Faults:

Overall, this Jetta has been OK. I have never had a car with this many miles so I am eager to read reviews of 2000 Jettas with more than 50,000 miles to see how they are holding up.

My Oxygen Sensors have gone out 5 times in the past 18 months. The Check Engine Light has come on about 5-7 times since I bought the car. Every single time it is due to the Oxygen Sensors. The dealer said that it is because I do a lot of in town driving. Therefore, my husband started driving it on the highway only and this continued to happen. VW told me that this happens in all cars today. I never had this happen with my Honda or with our Explorer.

The driver's side window dropped down in the door once while VW service was closed. I had to take it to a private mechanic.

The cup holders broke when I first bought the car. This is a very poor feature. The salesman even told me about this when I bought the car.

The latch on the armrest compartment is broken.

The turn signal box broke at 50,000 miles.

The pieces that hold the floor mats down are broken.

The lowest volume on the radio is too loud.

I like the automatic windows.

I love my heated seats.

The car lacks in cabin storage.

I think that the leather seats wear very nicely.

I have found that the exterior paint scratches easily.

The car has good visibility, is peppy, and is cute. However, for the Oxygen Sensors are a nightmare! This is very costly and VW service told me that I can expect for this to keep happening.

Please post how your Jetta is doing after 50,000 miles so I know if I should keep it or sell it. Thanks!

Faults:

My husband and I are very unhappy with this car. It is a major piece of junk! The doors leak yellow grease, the driver's side heated seat only works half the time, the right hinge on the glove compartment broke off, the oxygen sensor had broke and was recalled along with the right rear passenger window. The cup holder broke right away as well as on my previous car, 1999 Jetta GL. The volume control on the radio changes all on it's own. The plastic handles on the inside of the doors peel off. The turn signal switch went out. The rear defroster went out. The left rear door lock pops up and caused the alarm to go off all by itself in the middle of the night waking up my neighbors. The coolant temperature sensor went bad. I will never by another VW again and everyone I talk to that is interested in them I strongly advise to choose any other car.

Faults:

The oxygen sensor went out at 10,000 miles, but was under warranty.

General Comments:

This car has been the best purchase I have every made. Its performance has been outstanding. Whether you are making a long trip or just running around town it is a joy to drive.

The cargo room in this compact sedan is amazing. I have camped for weeks out of this car and had everything I need and the dog too.

I've taken this car to the dealer for all of its schedule maintenance. The dealer (Dublin Volkswagen) is fair priced, courteous and willing to work with you on all points. It may cost a little more to service at the dealer, but I feel that it has been well worth it for my Jetta.
