2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2.0L 4 cylinder.
Summary:
It slowly got me! I got off easy, guys!
Faults:
When I first got the car, the starter made a noise for about one second just after the engine turned; now, it does it on every startup and is more pronounced, only now the vehicle is out of warranty and Volkswagen will not honor my complaint because the dealer stated that they have never had a starter fail due to this noise, which they obviously admitted to knowing about.
The rust proofing leaks from the bottom of the doors and the engine light started coming on after I filled up the gas tank, today.
The window clips on the front passenger side window broke twice leaving the window in the down position; the first time the dealer fixed it they put two scratches, down to the primer, at the top of the door and the second time after they fixed it, I got in the car and there were loud clicking sounds coming from inside the door when I tested the window - I didn't accept the car and an hour later it came back fixed properly… with grease on the steering wheel and door panel.
General Comments:
I'm trying to sell the car because I need more room in the back for a third child seat and the wife needs an automatic. It's very difficult to sell it because of the manual transmission (my fault), the starter noise at startup and the newly lit engine light, which I need to get diagnosed.
Over all, I think it's a good little car; however, I did expect much more for the money.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I agree with writer-I have had almost the same issues with my Volkswagen. Add the switch for the gas tank wouldn't open-by the time I was able to get an appointment to get it fixed (two weeks) -ran out of gas-had to have it towed to their shop! They fixed it free of charge in 8 minutes. Also the spring under both the both front seats fell off after finding broken plastic clips under the seats.
