Summary:

A high performance pile of junk

Faults:

Airbag light has been on for 6 months, 4 attempts to have it fixed at a very incompetent dealer.

Engine light comes on repeatedly.

Oil light comes on, burns oil somehow, but never any puddles or drops beneath the car.

Rear tweeter is making a horrible clicking noise, had it fixed, still clicking.

General Comments:

I think it's a combination of a lousy dealer selling a lousy product. I never had problems like these, or this frequently with my 1990 Corrado with 108,000 miles on it!!

Avoid Vincent Volkswagen, Rochester, NY. Bad attitudes, bad products.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I hope I am replying to the person who wrote this: I had the same problem with my 1999 Volkswagen Beetle (Airbag light on dash is on) However, I was told by a Volkswagen Tech {anonymously}, to call Volkswagen of America and complain that this is a safety hazard and if in an accident the airbags may not deploy. By Golly Wow! That worked! They found all of these sensors that shorted out other sensors that was causing the airbag sensor to not work. And, It was fixed. Would have cost me over $1500.00 plus tax to fix. I must say, Thank God for communication! Good Luck!!!

2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2.0

Summary:

Love the car; wish it were hassle free!

Faults:

I'm starting to have too many problems with this car. It is almost two years old and it is at the dealership at least once a month. I had the car 3 months and the check engine light came on. After the dealership dropped the gas tank out of the car, they found that the seal on the gas cap was broken. Problem fixed... nope. The engine light came on 4 times after that and each time I took it back and there was always a different problem.

Car had an oil change at 28,000... at 30,700 the car started making a ticking noise from the engine. I decided to check the oil to find there was NO oil in the car. But the engine light didn't come on! Took the car in and they started an oil consumption test. Took the car to the dealership 3 times since then, so they could check the oil level and top it off. On the third trip they found the oil plug was loose and it was leaking oil. At this point I was hoping the problem was fixed. I was wrong. The car is now at 35,800, the oil is down 2 quarts and the back brakes went yesterday.

I had a 95 Golf that was at the dealership for scheduled maintenance only. This car is there all the time! My dealership has been wonderful, but I am really starting to consider trading the car in. The dealership is 35 minutes away and going there every month so they can top off my oil is ridiculous.

General Comments:

I love the look of this car and it's fun to drive.

The back seat could be bigger and the material used for the seats is terrible.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Dude, I can totally sympathize. I had the same car - same nightmare. After about 13 visits to the dealership, 20-30 calls to VW corp., countless calls to the dealership's manager, VW agreed to take the car back and give me a new car at below cost.

I wound paying $3000 dollars + my car for a new 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg 1.8T. Big difference from the other car. Actually, I've only had one problem: the seats make a noise, when you take off or brake hard, as though they are unlocked. Same problem with the old car. They tried to fix it 5 times. Then, they finally said that it was normal.
