2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6

Summary:

Good for the money

Faults:

I really haven't had much of anything go wrong (2001 Jetta GLX VR6). I have read some horror stories and have been glad my car is being nice to me. Yesterday the EPC light came on, but it continued to run just fine. After some research I figured out that I have no brake lights. And I saw that there is a recall on the brake light switch. I am hoping nothing goes wrong with it beyond that (I saw some postings about it not able to get out of park). The only other strange thing was the passenger window fell down and there was a recall on the window latch too. Oh and it smells like crayon... another gift from VW, I guess it could be worse... I just pre-warn people before they get in.

General Comments:

I have seen some nasty stories. I bought this car without any research. It runs great and overall is a good car. Handles well and the only upkeep on it is the regularly scheduled maintenance's. I think I lucked out.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GL VR6

Summary:

Crap

Faults:

I have the same crayon smell, although I don't really mind it.

The thing that bugs me is that I have already replaced the battery once, $90, and now 6 months later am having problems with a mysterious "electrical drain". I have replaced the battery again. and am going to pick up the car tomorrow, after the battery, and time spent finding the "drain" $180.

I cannot recommend this car, and if there is a class action suit filed by someone, I'm in, hongh925@yahoo.com.

There are also a lot of bugs with the electronics (auto roll down windows go nuts sometimes, warning lights come on mysteriously sometimes).

2001 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg 1.8 turbo

Summary:

So far so good

Faults:

No Major problems so far.

There are the simple problems of a used car (some specific to the Jetta) :

Peeling interior paint

Smells like crayons on the inside

Latch that holds the center armrest lid closed is broken/missing.

Minor wear on the seats.

General Comments:

So far, I love the car. I've only had the car for one day, and I'm learning to drive a manual, but I've got high expectations because the car has had no previous major problems. I did plenty of research on this site, most people stated that their cars were lemons, and a few reported that they never had major problems with their cars. I'm hoping that I will be one of those lucky people.

So far the car has preformed wonderfully! The acceleration is wonderful, and I love the turbo's whistling noise. It takes curves really well, and has strong breaking power. The seats are very adjustable, and the sunroof adds a lot to the car.

I'm praying that nothing will break on it for a few thousand miles at least! I'm going to make sure I take it in at 60k miles to replace the timing belt, so it won't break on me! I plan on treating this car as best I can. It's my dream car! I got it for 10,600$ :)

Oh yeah... Does anyone have any tips on keeping my car in very good working order? Specific to this model.

I've got an 01 Wolfsburg. All of my rims are peeling and it also smells like CRAYONS!!! Haha. Great car... few problems so far. Just hit 100 000 km's.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2.0

Summary:

90% approval

Faults:

Lost oil about 1qt/2000 miles. Checked every week.

With 5 passengers today, EPC light came on, but went out when I stopped at a stop sign. Acelerated again and light never came on.

Oil plug stripped pan easily. I had VW install a heli-coil for 50 bucks plus 30 for oil.

Trunk a little small for two big travel bags.

General Comments:

Great ride. Went 50mph on a tight turn and made it.

Great instrument panel. Very basic and easy to operate with one hand.

Oil and filter change is a must every 3000 miles. Do not neglect this one.

3rd gear is where speed is. Keep it at 3rd from 25 to 65 and car is like a bullet. Watch the car in front of you! You may get too excited and hit it.
