2001 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L

Faults:

Burns a lot of oil - 1+ qt per 3000 miles.

Interior items brake such as the center armrest latch, glove compartment support arms, and window mechanisms. Also, the seat fabric attracts lint. Additionally, the synthetic fabric on the door armrest has rubbed off. There seems to have been some bad engineering problems with the interior.

Random engines items have already needed replacement, such as a vacuum hose, and temperature sensor.

General Comments:

Very fun to drive.

But expense of maintenance and constant problems with interior make me question whether to buy another Jetta.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta Tdi

Summary:

I love driving it, and so far, no problems

Faults:

Nothing other than a few tail lights or head lights needing a new bulb.

General Comments:

After reading this web site I am quite concerned and worried, and also a bit confused. I love my Tdi, and never have any trouble with it. It justs keeps going and going... I have it serviced at normal service intervals with my local VW dealership.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6

Summary:

BMW or VW? (you choose)

Faults:

The front rodors had to be replaced at 70,000mi.

The finish on the dashboard and doors is starting to peel.

It does suck up oil.

General Comments:

The car is great and reliable. This is my first Volkswagen and it's proving to be a state of the art German engineered car. It handles great and the power from the VR6 engine is wonderful.

I sometimes feel like I'm driving a BMW, rather then a Volkswagen. Besides the minor maintanince problems it's an overall great Buy!

Yea I'd have to say my 98 jetta rides the best of almost any 4 door compact/small car I've ever ridden in. However the 2.0 is kinda weak, the manual tranny helps though.

I agree my family swears by VW's my mom has a 93 Passat and I can't tell you how many messed up reviews I read about that model, but its 2007 and the only problems that we had were the right wheel baring, and a couple of hoses nothing more than 500 dollars I have a 2001 jetta which I bought used with 61k on it and I've had it since 04. I drive a lot and I've not had one problem yet, I also keep my oil and filter changed regularly and have a mechanic I trust. Also my uncle drives a 525 and I would still pick my vw over that any day of the week. But when you have had the lovely luck I've had with them you'd feel the same. JUST DRIVE IT AGAIN!!!

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLX 1.8T

Summary:

Would buy another Jetta in a heatbeat

Faults:

I have had very little issues with my Jetta... needed a new battery and brakes. New coils for the plugs recently...

I have had very little maintanence cost over the years, and the car is amazing...wonderful. So reliable. NO issues whatsoever... I wonder sometimes if other people I read about are driving the same cars. I have friends with BMW 3-series and they are in the shop ALL THE TIME with issues. I have the quality, the tightness, the road handling and performance of a German Sports sedan... and no issues. My only problem has been a misfire that began on a trip at 75,000 miles and the engine code said that some of the spark-plug coils were going out. Common. they are about $44. each. Those... a new engine temp sensor (another code that came up) new plugs and that is all. Oh... it did need a battery 6 months ago. I have invested a total of $440. over a 5 year period for my Jetta. I change my own oil... use synthetic... I love this car!

General Comments:

I have the 'crayon' smell too. Kinda a waxy smell... does not bother me really... and I know its from the sound deadening spray wax in the doors, etc. Keeps sound down and rust away. I really don't mind it... its soooo much better than those cheap air fresheners a car wash gives you... or the normal 'smell' of a used car carpets smell. No thank you. My Jetta really smells new... like the ones at a dealer, or at least that what it makes me think of...

Car is VERY fast... turbo is awesome. Handles so well...comfortable. And I get 28mpg average city/highway if I ease up on the turbo...

I could not ask anything more out of a machine...
