2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2.0L Gasoline

Summary:

The 2001 Jetta GLS 2.0L is a very reliable vehicle and gets good gas mileage

Faults:

My passenger front window fell off the track twice; under warranty repairs.

My catalytic converter had to be replace once; under warranty.

General Comments:

The vehicle is very reliable; all repairs have been under warranty or were a factory recall.

The service from VW has been excellent.

The car gets good gas mileage (30/34)

The power of the vehicle is well matched to the size and weight of the vehicle. I have never had a problem passing or maintaining speed in any highway or mountain pass.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.9 TDI

Faults:

Console latch broken (16.00 to fix). Glow plugs, harness and relay replaced (225.00 to fix.

Other than normal maintenance (water pump, timing belt and filters) this car is aw-some compaired to my last car (Honda Civic) and way cheaper to repair.

General Comments:

This car is great. I love the feel of a German designed car does feel cheap like my Honda. Will buy VW again.

The diesel engine is the best. With 45mpg helps a lot.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta VR6

Summary:

My car is very fast and looks nice, but I'm just waiting for something else to go wrong

Faults:

My car smells like crayons.

The arm rest latch broke.

The door handles are peeling.

The paint on the exterior is chipping on the hood.

General Comments:

Yeah. My car smells like crayons.

When I tell everyone the make and model of my car, they all reply with "Oooo's" and "Ahhh's," but if they owned one themselves, they might feel differently. I love the look and feel of my car, but I hate waiting for it to warm up in the winter so that it can accelerate at it's normal fast rate.

It has minor problems all around, from chipped paint on the exterior to peeling handles on the interior. That, and it smells like crayons. Weird.

Next time I'll stick with that BMW I was looking at.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6 2.8L VR6

Summary:

I am disappointed that VW won't do what they promise

Faults:

Catalytic converter needed to be replaced at 25k miles.

Ignition coil needed to be replaced at 48k miles.

General Comments:

I have a 2001 Jetta GLX VR6 and I love my Jetta. This is the second Jetta that I have owned. However, VW says that it is not included in the WG campaign to replace ignition coils for the 2001, 2002, and 2003 VW's and Audi's even though their press release states that my car is included. I had the coil pack replaced at the dealership, but I am still trying to work through a customer advocate to have VW include my car in this recall. My coil is affected, and even though the original press release includes my car, VW doesn't want to pay for the $820 repair.

They are supposed to get back to me within 48 hours with an answer. Unfortunately, it looks like I will have to file a claim in small claims court. Anyone else with a faulty ignition coil for a 2001 Jetta VR6 been left out in the cold?

VW issued a press release about the issue, but has had 2 years to issue an update to this original press release, and has failed to do so. Why is it so difficult for them to honor their own press releases to customers?

These horrible little cars are really not worth bothering with if you live in North America.

Instead, just buy a nice, well-cared-for, used Mercury Grand Marquis, Ford Crown Victoria, or, better still, a nice Lincoln Town Car with a luxurious leather interior.

They're not so good on gas as the Jetta, but they're good for their size, spacious and smooth-riding.

Live a little. You deserve it.

And gas is cheap in the USA anyway.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta VR6 6 cylinder 200 hp

Summary:

Closest to a lemon I've ever owned..

Faults:

1. Most major thing wrong, is that it's an automatic transmission, and it's already been replaced once for slipping in between 2nd and 3rd gears (after only 30,000 miles), and is now slipping again and will need to be replace. All of this is fine since it's under the power-train warranty, but THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON A CAR THIS NEW!!

2. After 30,000 seals in cooling system failed, car overheated, and had to be towed to dealer for repairs.

3. Middle console, the latch has broken 3x, and I have paid out of packet for it to be fixed each time.

4. Faulty sensors made check engine light come on sporadically, took 2x into the dealer for this to be fixed.

5. Laminate on steering wheel and console is peeling off.

6. I have cloth seats, and the seats have these little balls the form on them, I'm not sure if it's the seats wearing badly, or picking up lint... but it's nearly impossible to get off.

7. Short in front right turn signal, which will randomly work at its' own leisure.

8. After pulling up onto 1 parking block, left side of front bumper came off, panels in front popped out, and undercarriage came completely off.

General Comments:

Essentially, this car is cheap... and the people I've talked to at the dealership seem willing to take no responsibility for this and keep telling me it's my fault.

Bottom line, if you have an automatic transmission... unless you're drag racing your car, it should never fail after 30,000 miles. My old Honda accord, never needed anything done except the oil changed and fluids topped off.. it was an automatic, and I drove it for 200,000 miles until I finally had to replace the transmission.

You can use a lint roller to get the lint off the seats. This lint problem also happened on my older Saturn. Not hard to get off.

I own a 2001 Jetta VR6, it just rolled over to 64000 miles... I have had two cylinders misfires both costing over $800.00 as well as now I just learned that my timing chain is comming loose and will need to be replaced! Not Happy! This will cost me a lot of money and if I sell it I will only lose money. The dealership told me that for a 2001 Jetta with the VR6, at this mileage this is a known issue and these cars have not been lasting long after. What can I say, This is got to be the closest thing to a lemon I have every encountered!!

I have a 2001 VR6, and it has 160,000 miles, and is still running good.
