2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6

Summary:

Fun car, great looks, pricey routine up keep

Faults:

Brake light sensor staying on, windows dropping (the plastic clip breaking), another sensor that caused the gear shift not to move into R or D.

General Comments:

Each of the above were repaired no cost by the dealership. There was a workaround for the gear shift not engaging (move the gear shift as you turn the ignition key)

Other that the above problems, tires still in good shape, brakes pads are at 70/60. no head lights, tail lights or anything have been replaced. Windshield wipers still good.

Owners manual is terrible for do it yourself maintenance.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8 turbo gas

Summary:

My Husband dislikes it!!!

Faults:

Since about 2 years ago;I've had difficulty with the check engine light coming off/on.I've since taken it into the Dealership for Analyzing & they've have never been able to pin point the problem. I have replaced :Mass air flow sensor, gas filter, Clutch switch, Fuel pressure regulator, along with keeping up with oil changes. As I too baby my car.I'm disappointed that I have spent so much money trying to get it fix. My car is still sitting in my garage "Non functional",as I am having problem getting it started.

General Comments:

Besides, all my difficulty.. I still Love my car. Wish it worked.

72k on a 1.8t. Have you experienced any oil lights? It might be time just to give up on it.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS TDI

Summary:

Solid, comfotable, safe, and cheap to drive!!

Faults:

Power windows failed, dealer repaired under factory recall.

Check the recommended timimg belt change frequency for your year, this is expensive.

General Comments:

Very good quality, ride, but a bit small for a family. We get 40+ mpg on the highway doing 75-85 mph!!!

Synthetic oil every 5k, no problems.

We love this car!!!

2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Summary:

Great car, worth the trouble

Faults:

I had rear brakes replaced in 2003.

Seats stain easily because they are light tan cloth.

I will have to have catalytic converter replaced soon, according to VW maintenance tech.

General Comments:

I have owned 2 VWs and I love both of them dearly. They are really well-made and haven't provided any significant problems. I definitely do not drive like a "Grandmother," but I am careful as to not abuse the car. My first VW had over 140K miles and my current VW has almost 90K miles.

For the minor replacements I've mentioned above, I think I got the best deal for my money.

Great car. Worth every penny.

2001 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg Limited Edition 1.8T

Summary:

After 50,000 miles it is extremely unreliable

Faults:

Check engine light has been coming on for 2 months and my foreign car mechanic cannot find the problem.

Turbo is not responding consistently.

Turbo boost pressure control valve was replaced, but I still have engine check light problems and performance problems.

Trunk no longer opens from in inside release.

Lights for fan and temperature controls are not always coming on.

Two wheel bearings had to be replaced 1 month after my 2 year warranty was up.

Mechanic is getting multiple problems on the diagnostic test. Tune up was performed at $20 per spark plug.

When driver door is open the notification that parking lights are on no longer works.

Recall for windows clips had to be replaced due to window breaking on driver side while in operation to lower.

Car is stalling on start up.

General Comments:

At this stage of the game after spending around I have no faith in the manufacturing of the vehicle or its performance.

I will strongly discourage anyone from buying a VW jetta.

I was hoping to keep this car for 10-12 years, but it looks like I will be passing it on for an American made car.

I notice that you took delivery of a new car with 300 miles. Was there an explanation (or excuse) from the dealer for so many miles?

Most new cars I have had were delivered with under 20 miles. Well, the new VW I bought several years ago did have about 120 miles. Dealer said it was a 'dealer trade'.

If your having problems with the way the car runs, and the engine light is on, I suggest you check the timing belt. My car ran really bad and my VW mechanic couldn't figure out what it was. Then my timing belt snapped and the engine is toast and VW won't help in any sort of way.

Dealer trades or test drives are the usual reason for miles on a car. All of those test drives on a car do add up.
