1978 Volvo 242 DL 21F
Summary:
A ultra-reliable tank
Faults:
Odometer hasn't worked for many years, and is too expensive to fix, so I don't know how many miles I've put on it.
Interior dash lights called it quits, soon to be fixed.
Hard warm starting; probably the check valve.
Needed new spark plugs, wires, and O2 sensor.
New bottom radiator hose (it was old).
Power steering leaks, it's probably a hose.
Rear main oil seal leaks ever so slightly, but not bad enough to have it replaced.
General Comments:
Despite minor problems, this car is very reliable, and has never refused to start up.
This car is a tank, it may not go fast, but it will go were you need it to in safety.
I have never found a better car heater, this one will cook you if you leave it on too long.
This is/was the car I learned how to drive a stick on, and it has handled my abuse very well, and I'm suprised the cluch is still functioning.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

It's great to hear that there are still some of these wonderful 242's around.
I have owned many Volvo's and must say that my 1978 242DL has to be my favorite one by far. As a matter of fact I sold my 740GLE ('86) that was in showroom condition after I purchased the 242DL.
Volvo...there is no substitute!
