1989 Volvo 760 GLE B280 2.8L V6

Summary:

The 89/90 760 GLE is the most reliable car volvo has ever manufactured

Faults:

When I bought the car, it was leaking oil from the front gasket. This is very common for this model at high mileage. It was about $500 to fix.

Otherwise perfect so far.

General Comments:

This car is seriously luxurious. Leather, moon roof, heated seats, aftermarket CD/MP3 player with amps, crossovers, subs etc.

For $2000 Canadian dollars I doubt I could have found a better deal on such a quality car.

A bit of a pig on gas, but worth it for the stylish ride!

After one more year it is still running stronger than ever. 303,000 kilometers (just over 180,000 miles). What a great engine. Too bad about the economy though, a real gas guzzler!

1989 Volvo 760 2.3 turbo

Summary:

The finest automobile I've ever owned

Faults:

I recently bought this car from a Volvo mechanic. I'm still in the glow of everything being in working order.

The leather, however, does have the typical wear from getting in and out of the car.

General Comments:

The acceleration and handling of this car is remarkable for such a large and heavy beast.

The mileage isn't the best (20-23mpg), but for the comfort and capacity of the car it's not bad.

Possibly because Volvo only changes things in increments, and very slowly at that, the styling is still quite pleasing.

And, finally, I paid $2500 for mine and I've seen them for a bit more and a lot less--bargains are easily to be had.

Yeah I got a great one for just $850 a real bargain with everything working except the driver side electric seat.

1989 Volvo 760 Turbo turbo

Summary:

Runs forever

Faults:

Just about everything.

Turbo blew a couple months after I bought the car.

Seat motor never went back and forth.

Sunroof was worn so it stopped closing correctly.

Both struts on the drivers side are bad.

Plastic overflow tank for the engine coolant broke, which unfortunately was the straw that broke the camels back.

General Comments:

Excellent car for all of it's faults.

While things were broken it kept on trucking almost 2 years more.

Tons of space inside, it can fit a 6'3" person comfortably in the back seat, a feat not often duplicated in many other cars.

I'm going to miss this old brick when it goes for the trade in, it served me well for over 2 years after buying it for only $1400.

I own a 1988 760 turbo, and I find the engine incredibly sophisticated and difficult to find someone that is either willing to work on it, or has the capability of working on it. It's fast and runs great when it's tuned properly, however that is rarely the case. I find it hard to keep it tuned for maximum performance and efficiency. Unfortunately, I had to replace the turbocharger twice, to the tune of $750. Other than that, the car has been satisfactory. It has approximately 150k, and I believe the motor is still relatively strong. I expect the motor to last another 100k, however, I have lost hope in the design and longevity of the turbocharger, and without it the car is so slow it almost goes backward.
