General Comments:

The first thing I need to say is that this car is supremely comfortable. I can cruise in it all day and still be feeling great. Another thing, it's extremely reliable. I've driven it cross-country 4 times and haven't had 1 problem in 65,000 miles except normal wear and tear. The engine, very smooth, powerful, and economical. I get about 24mpg in the city and as high as 34mpg on the highway on (would you believe it) regular gas! When I've had to get maintenance done, the dealer is always prompt and friendly. Long story short, this car is the best!!!

You call that economical?

In Europe that is a pain to the pocket! Modern Diesels give you 50mpg combined, with performance similar to gasoline versions.

In America diesels are mostly looked upon as stinky, slow engines (unfortunately). Also, gas is cheap :) so auto manufacturers only offer bigger engines (the 2.9 is the base model here). Therefore "American" economical is much lower than "European" economical.

I must say the car looks and drives great. But most of all, the service has been spectacular. I should know. It is often joked that I put more miles on the loaner cars that my own.

I have had my 2000 S80 since it was new. I haven't had one problem with it (believe it or not). It's not the peppiest car on the road, but it is a lot faster than my other car (VW Jetta TDI). But other than that, it's been a great car, always there when I need it, no problems whatsoever.
