2001 Volvo XC70 2.4 with soft turbo
Summary:
Overall a seemingly pretty solid car if treated well with recommended maintenance
Faults:
Promised by owner/dealer of used cars that all was in good shape and that he prepared the car for his ex-wife to drive it from Allentown, Pennsylvania to Michigan.
So far...
Rear brakes paper thin. Replaced.
Rear struts leaking. Replaced.
Rear sway bar links very loose. Replaced.
Rear hatch not locking. Replaced.
Several electrical connections under hood not connected. Reconnected.
Came out to the car about a week ago to find a few quarts of oil under the car. Had it towed to a mechanic. Resulting diagnosis: Intake cam seal blown out. May be due to crankcase ventilation system blockage and increasing crankcase pressure (take note!). Timing belt got soaked with oil so a timing belt job will ensue as well.
Also, the dealer touted that the car had four new tires on it. It turns out that they are the wrong size! Too small and a crappy, cheap brand as well.
I guess he didn't really like his ex-wife very much to allow her to drive the car in these conditions! LOL!!!
Also, phoned him to detail oil seal problem. I had just bought the car from him and he quoted a starting price of $1600. Found a lifelong Volvo mechanic to do it for $700.
Lessons are being learned...
General Comments:
So far pleased once I get the problems associated with the lying seller straightened out, as I outlined in another paragraph.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Sad story, but then which dealer is that honest? The seals are indeed from the PCV: you will need to replace it ($300 in parts on FCP Euro or IPD USA), plus you'll need to blow air into the lower engine block port, hopefully it's not blocked. Also inspect the rear main seal; it also fails when the PCV is really bad. Use only genuine cam seals from Volvo, don't put anything cheap in there; also these specific seals have to be seated at a very specific position, not fully pushed in, check the forums.
Use only quality parts for the timing belt, Continental is about the only choice besides genuine. Your water pump also needs attention at 200k miles, use only Aisin, never cheap aftermarket ones.
Again, if not already done, hit the forums and meet the community!
These are the ones with more respectful people
