1997 Fiat Uno i.e. S 1.4 Fire

Summary:

Reliable, cheap, quite comfortable and dynamic car

Faults:

Exhaust replaced due to corrosion and perforation at 70 000 kilometers.

Clutch replaced at 75 000 kilometers.

Fuel pump broke down at 100 000 kilometers.

Shock absorbers replaced at 110 000 kilometers.

Head gasket blew at 120 000 kilometers.

Wheel cover was cracked (at about 125 000 kilometers).

General Comments:

My Uno is special model built in Poland in 1996 and 1997. It has power windows, power locks with remote control, roof rack, black bumpers and black lower trim. Rest of the car is blue, non-metallic.

Interior is roomy compared to similar cars. Front seats are placed quite high, which causes good visibility. Seats are comfortable, even on longer trips.

Uno is easy to drive and it handles like a little sports car. No problems with stability at 90 mph. It's also dynamic. From 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 12 seconds! This is big fun to race with those VW Golf's or Opel Astra's drivers and beat them.

In my opinion Fiat Uno, especially with 1.4 engine, is one of the best cars in his class. Compared to competition it's also much cheaper to drive and maintain. I really like my Uno!

1990 Fiat Uno Turbo 1.3

Summary:

A fast runabout

Faults:

Blown head gasket due to overheating of the engine.

Overheating caused by a faulty fan switch.

Cracked exhaust manifold.

Brakes seem to keep on braking despite releasing the brake pedal. I have not located the problem yet.

Rust on front fenders as well as the under-body of the car.

General Comments:

I have owned several fast cars. Starting with the Golf Gti 16v finishing of on a Dodge Viper which I still have. However I always wanted to own a UNO because if the fact that it is so practical around town. So when the opportunity arose, a Turbo model it had to be.

Performance is a strong point of this car and it leaves many other, more expensive new cars far behind.

When driven lightly, it is economical, but when driven hard it can drain the pocket.

Some extra power will be required and it will follow soon.

2002 Fiat Uno 146 0.9L

Summary:

Low price, low quality

Faults:

The injection system needed adjustment after about 500 km due to critical loss of power.

Leaky doors (since it was new)

Loose handbrake (after a few uses)

The back seat was assembled a little too much towards the back so there were problems with shutting the trunk-cover.

General Comments:

Drives easily (if no passengers aboard)

Very very weak.

Takes a long long time to reach cruising speed.

Load it with 4 persons and luggage and you'll get neurosis.

Smokes like a 1.4 l, but performs like a skateboard.

Back seat is more comfy than in other small vehicles.

Very poor finish (interior & exterior)

Some interior parts look as if they were taken from scrap yard.

Very delicate upholstery.
