1995 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6

Summary:

Great car, sport+comfort, one of the best ever

Faults:

Minor problems with A/C and power windows regulator.

NO problems in the engine, run smooth and 26 mpg average; 24 city & 30mpg highway.

Routine maintenance:

Engine oil every 5,000 miles (synthetic blend).

Tires.

Battery.

Premium fuel.

Other maintenance:

160,000 miles - change the head cover gasket and spark plugs, (very easy to do; I do it) only requires wire puller ($35) & 6mm hex key ($6).

155,000 miles.

Suspension bushings + ball bearings.

About $120 in parts + labor $100.

I know that this is a high mileage car and requires more work but this car runs great, and never leaves me in the highway.

General Comments:

The car is great, this is my third VW, first an '88 VW Fox in 1999, in 2002 I changed for a Jetta GT with a 2.0l engine, later I bought a Chevy Silverado 1995 because I was need a pick-up for hard work, and now I have this car that is the most fun to drive ever. It is a car with comfort, performance and a huge trunk space. My girlfriend bought a 2001 Jetta, and my car is larger in the inside leg room.

I only do great maintenance record, change the engine oil every 5000 miles, good tires, maintain with no oil & water leaks and runs great.

I run about 1,500 to 2,000 miles monthly, and the car runs hard.

1995 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L

Summary:

The repairs are so expensive and complicated

Faults:

Still overheating. I've been repairing this problem cost to me over $400. I already change the thermo sensor, a new brand radiator, the cooling fans (both of then) & now because overheating still, the hot water fall over the fan control module & the same time creating a short circuit that burned a whole bunch of cables...

General Comments:

I likes those VW cars, but I won't buy another one.

2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8 turbo

Summary:

Plastic Surgery Car: Pretty outside, Crappy inside

Faults:

Window Clips inside the door broke, they are plastic & with the heat in the tropics, it breaks when it hits the bottom. Changed 2 times at driver's side and 3 times in the passenger side.

Glove compartment spring broke 3 times, 2 times covered by warranty.

Check Engine light came on and no problems found yet. Still on...

The shift handle could not be moved, kept trying and then it shifted. Took it to the dealer inmediately and it was covered under warranty.

All interior trims are peeling and greasy.

General Comments:

Like the look of the car and the handling, but the interior details are a mess, feels like a 20 year old car!!!
