1996 Citroen Xantia 1.6

Summary:

Definitely not for those who desire reliability

Faults:

I) Very slow upward lift of rear suspension when the car is started after a 6 hour rest.

Ii) Aircon blower breaks down about once in 1.5 years.

Iii) Replaced aircon compressor four times. Also found that aircon compressor for Xantia just isn't ever cool enough.

Iv) Severe leak of mineral oil occurred three times during lifespan of car.

V) The suspension spheres are frequently replaced. They simply do not last.

Vi) Clutch pedal bracket snapped once, forcing my car to just jolt to a rude halt in the middle of traffic!!

Vii) Audio controls on steering wheel has completely failed.

Viii) Plastics seem to be brittle. Plastic handle of cylinder oil examination rod and gear knob have broken off very easily on the 5th year of ownership.

General Comments:

Xantia offers a lovely ride and is fairly spacey, but it is quite a temperamental car. There are times when I feel that the suspension is attempting to stage a mutiny against me by refusing to be consistent in terms of the ride comfort.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

Who told you to buy a second hand European make? You obviously want to pay more for the repairs and unreliability. If you want to go continental motoring in Singapore, get a new one not second hand.

I once had a subaru turbo. After 2 years of huge bills I let it go for £500. Its not that it was really unreliable. Its just every time went in for work the bill would be £1200 minimum. No thanks drive a vauxhall now.
