1980 Mitsubishi Lancer GL 1.4 petrol
Summary:
Very nice old school car
Faults:
The car isn't too fast, although it's fast enough for its small engine. A bigger engine would have made it move better, but the 1.4 isn't bad at all after all.
The downside is when you stretch the gears too much, it takes too long to get back up to speed.
While the interior of the car can remain intact with proper care, the sheet metal is susceptible to rust, especially in warm climates like here. It's not advisable to leave it in the sun, especially when it's very hot.
My car, in particular, has rusted quite a bit over the years. It's not a serious problem, but it's not pretty to look at either.
The car is from 1980 and in terms of electronics it was state-of-the-art compared to European and American cars, even so, in more than 20 years I haven't had any mechanical or electronic problems. I know that other Lancers have had problems with the electronics; fortunately, none of that happened in mine.
General Comments:
It's the classic japanese car of the 1980s, extremely tough, reliable, and efficient.
As I said before, the engine isn't powerful (at least for a sedan like the Lancer), but when it comes to reliability, I can't say a word against it. Despite having tons of miles on the clock, it was never serviced and always ran like new.
It's from 1980, so given its age at the time, it was as complete as it could be, with power steering, front windows, and, most importantly for those who live in hot countries like me, air conditioning (which always worked perfectly and has never broken down).
A robust vehicle with good mechanical quality, generally easy and inexpensive to maintain. Its durability depends largely on the care it has received over the years. In my case, it has aged very well without any problems.
It's a vehicle that allows for many aesthetic modifications (body kits, spoilers, rims, etc.). You see a lot of people around here doing that to older cars, but I prefer to leave it as is.
I sold it over three years ago, and while I have a more modern car today, I still miss the Lancer and its simplicity and reliability.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
