2004 Citroen Xsara 1.6

Summary:

Good value for money

Faults:

The heater fan was running on full speed only when I bought the car. That was an easy and quick fix (replacing the resistor).

A headlight bulb had to be replaced.

General Comments:

I really liked this car. It felt well built and was comfortable. It was inexpensive to buy and own. Pretty comfortable.

I would have kept it, but an elderly man crashed into it and it was scrapped.

2002 Citroen Xsara LX 1.6 16v 110BHP

Summary:

A dream, that delivers more than you expect

Faults:

Nothing. I one year I've done 20000 Km with no problem at all. On the 20 000 Km service they changed oil, oil filter, and dust (pollen) filter.

General Comments:

I'm very pleased with the car. Nothing wrong so far I've had nothing, but nice surprises. Ex: the back wiper starts automatically if you drive back :). The LCD is smart enough to know what door is open and so on.

I tested the car at high speed and it went all the way up to 190Km/h with 3 persons and a full trunk. I guess with only me in the car 200Km/h will be no problem. I snow it's a dream. Handel's better that a 4x4! (with M/S tires). I've order it fully loaded (all options) and it was a very cheap car. It averages 6 l/100km on highway (at 130 km/h) and 7.3 l/100Km in town.

Brakes are a dream. Sometimes I begin to trust them to much...

In my model a on-board computer (average consumption, km left to drive...) was not a option and I'm missing that, but the cruse control, ESP, AAC and all the cool things are a dream, especially for the money!

190 KM/H with 3 people in is not that good I got 199 KM/H with 4 people in my 1.6i 16v Renault Scenic.

1999 Citroen Xsara SX Break (Estate) 1.8i 16v

Summary:

A comfortable wonder in a small package

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This car gives a comfortable ride even on uneven Swedish roads. It handles well with nice (power assisted) steering.

Engine noise is low, but surface noise from the road is a bit high.

The interior is roomy and nice, with good quality. I like the rounded edges on the dashboard. Feels more personal and welcome than the sterile interior in, for example, Volkswagen and Volvo.

However, I would welcome lumbar support in the front seat.

Factory fitted radio is OK, but nothing more. (if you want good sound, I advice on getting an aftermarket unit - Blaupunkt and Alpine has great solutions, they even have adapters to the remote control in the steering wheel).

Gear changes, especially when going from first to second gear, is a bit on the stiff side.

This is a reliable car. Everything works, including all electronics and electrical equipment.

A/C is good, heater excellent. The heater is excellent. No problems with -20 Celsius or below.

All in all, I'm very pleased with my car.

1998 Citroen Xsara SX Break 1.8 16V

Summary:

Stylish high-quality compact with a rare combination of comfort and road-holding for the price

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

A lovely little station wagon with a very comfortable ride, smooth and powerful engine (1.8), low fuel consumption (below 6.0 l/100km on motorways, 100-120 km/h). Comfortable and well built interior. Especially the quality of this vehicle amazes me. Past Citroens could feel a bit tacky, but this one feels strong and solid. Everything works very well indeed. I'm very pleased. They've learned the lessons from the past. In Sweden it comes with a very good warranty.
