1991 Volvo 940 GL 2.4 I4
Summary:
A large comfortable tank that will run forever
Faults:
Had to change the brakes, but it was cheap and not exactly something out of the ordinary.
General Comments:
I bought the car because I needed a reliable cheap and comfortable car, and the 940 was all that.
It's cheap to own:
Insurance is dirt cheap.
Every garage can repair it, and parts are easy and cheap to find.
It's virtually immune to rust; it was 18 years old when I sold it and almost rust free; this after being driven on road salt infested roads all its life.
The heater is unbeatable; after running the engine for a few minutes, it's like sitting next to a furnace.
Seats are like a comfy soft sofa.
It's not a race car, but the 2.4 litre engine works fine, and it will run forever as long as you give it enough petrol.
It's rear wheel driven, so it can even be fun to drive.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I also own a 940 Volvo, and whilst I would not describe it as the best car in the world, it is way above some of the recent offerings from auto companies and would outlast the majority of them. If owning it makes me a Luddite, so be it.
