1994 Alfa Romeo 145 16v 1.7

Summary:

Looks great but a dodgy car

Faults:

Intermittent stalling - computer warning lights coming on now and again saying that something was up with the injection unit.

General Comments:

This car had the unnerving habit of stalling at any given speed and without any seeming pattern of factors. I only had it three months, it was in to the dealer at least three times and each time they plugged it into their computer and declared it fixed. After three months the dealer agreed I could swap it for something else. I swapped it for a Honda Accord and have never looked back.

It was an absolutely beautiful car to look at. Beautiful engine note from the boxer engine.

Performance was disappointing. 130 horse power but not at the wheels.

Bit of a lemon this car.

The Alfa 145 is just a bad car. The computer is badly made, old technologies and poor programming. It mostly goes defective in a few years (3 times in my small district already, including me). The garage computer that they need to plug yours into is not better because they're are unable to tell why this car is always stalling at any moment.

For those looking for it (as you will need it), you can find it right under the floor at the passenger side under the dashboard.

The 4 exhaust pipes, built low under the engine, 18 cm from the ground, always get broken.

Spare yourself a lot of trouble and money.

Alfa 145 Cloverleaf. (registered Sept 2000). I've had this car from new, and have covered 39,000 miles in 2 years without any significant problem. The only 'trouble' I've had is a a misted up indicator, squeaky gear linkage, and the electric sunroof that needed adjusting so that it would slide open. All these were easily solved by the dealer.

Bad points on the car are: trim rattles, hard ride, fairly heavy fuel consumption, poor turning circle & body panels prone to parking 'dinks'.

Good points are: excellent handling & performance, versatile interior space, great to look at, & you feel part of an exclusive club. This is the best car I've ever owned.

1994 Alfa Romeo 145 16v 1.7

Summary:

Great car, shame about the reliability

Faults:

Cam belt snapped at 35,000 miles costing around 1400 pounds to replace.

Water leaks in car.

Water pump erratic.

Radiator replaced at 39,000.

Dealers expensive £50.00 per hour labour charges alone and you have to wait at least 2 months to get the car serviced to guarantee a courtesy car (in London anyway - there are only 2 dealers in North London/Central London and both are hopeless).

1994 Alfa Romeo 145 1.6 petrol

Faults:

Brakes replaced twice, exhaust replaced, water pump, trim fallen off, intermittent horn fault (x2), seat belts, radio cassette, rear suspension (all before 23,000 miles).

General Comments:

Car great to drive but the cost of repairs and hassle from dealer meaning car was off road unnecessarily for long periods of time made me get rid of it before the MOT. Alfa GB ignore letters sent to head office. Don't buy one!
