1991 Audi 80 Sport 2.0 injection

Summary:

This is a fast, economical, comfortable and affordable car that still looks good

Faults:

The remote central locking/alarm seems to work when it wants to. The alarm goes off sometimes for no reason.

Passenger side bottom ball joint started clonking, cheap enough to repair though.

General Comments:

This car still looks good for the age of it.

The engine and gearbox are bullet proof! and has plenty of poke.

Interior is roomy, comfortable, and well apointed although I think the three extra guages could be positioned better.

Boot isn't the biggest I seen!

I own an Audi Sport, it's done 180,000 miles and it's still going strong! The only thing that's gone is the gear box mountings. It don't sound so good, but it's still a classic and looks a damn sight better than som enew cars on the road. can anyone suggest a solution to the gear box mounting problem. The clutch and bodywork are like Rocky Balboa! Strong and invincible!

1991 Audi 80 Sport 2.0 injection

Summary:

Fast and reliable

Faults:

Front dampers failed at around 135000.

Front wheel bearings at the same time.

Idling valve at 140000. Intermittent fault causing stalling and failure to idle.

Various hoses worn and needed replacing.

General Comments:

This car was a luxury to drive. Electric everything. The sport kit includes a spoiler, wide tyres and lowered+stiffened suspension. Great handling, but a lot of road noise.

Tendency to under steer when pushed hard because of heavy nose. Also brakes were not quite up to very heavy driving and prone to overheating despite being disc front and back.

Due to the sheer weight of the car it was somewhat slow to accelerate from low speeds. However once it's rolling and the RPM's are above 3000 or so it can move some.

However it will comfortably cruise at 110MPH+ on a motorway and feel as solid as a rock.

Reliable, never let me down really, despite being mistreated quite often. How many cars would survive aspirating about a litre of the Irish sea through the air intake? The engine still ran fine after that incident.

Insurance expensive.

Unfortunately a unlucky low speed front collision meant that the car was never the same again.

1991 Audi 80 1.6D

Summary:

Excellent Diesel

Faults:

Reliability has been excellent except for poor wiring to the back lights.

General Comments:

Never broke down as yet.

Engine rattles a little on start up, but considering its covered almost 200000 it excellent.

Could be better inside, it's a bit sparce.

Nice to drive, but could do with PAS.

Very, Very economical. Returns over 50mpg and doesn't seem too sluggish.

1991 Audi 80 16V Sport 2.0 16v

Summary:

Good looking and good car, but takes winding up

Faults:

Distributor renewed at 114,000 miles.

Ignition switch broke inside at 112,000 miles.

General Comments:

Speedline wheels corroded when I bought the car, removed the lacquer with paint stripper, polished with wet and dry and finished with a scouring pad, problem with the plastic allen screws.

Noisy tappet at start up.

The heaviest car in the world, "Panzer". No rust and strong, goes well when pushed hard, but it has a lot of weight to shift when it come to 0 to 60.

1991 Audi 80 E 1.8 petrol

Faults:

There is a leak in the cooling water system.

It is using oil.

I had to replace a broken timing belt.

General Comments:

I really enjoy this car. It has a lot of electronic features (central locking, aerial, adjustable mirrors, heated mirrors, front windows, adjustable headlights). PAS. Six speakers with volume adjustment possible by rear passengers.

There is no visible corrosion anywhere after seven years. The 1.8 engine is a little bit small for the size of the car. Close to 100,000 miles on the clock. The model still looks good after seven years. If redesigning the car I would add a rear windscreen wiper.

1991 Audi 80 S 1.8 petrol

Faults:

Nothing apart from usual wear & tear.

General Comments:

I have owned the car for almost three years and would recomend an Audi for reliability and holding the value.

Mine has done 110k.
