2007 BMW Z4 Coupe Sport 3.0 si I6
Summary:
The business - looks, speed, torque, comfort, reliability, and reasonable running costs
Faults:
Headlight washer leaking. Repaired at a local garage for £50, though it took me a while to work out where all my screen wash was going.
Got a coin stuck behind the ashtray cover. Unbelievably difficult to remove.
General Comments:
This car looks and drives superb. The rarity of the coupe is a head turner, and it looks mean. The cabriolet looks like a bat mobile and I'm not a fan, but the Coupe is sleek and curvy. 0-62mph is around 5.5 seconds. It's slower than a 335i, but quicker than the 330i 3 Series. Grip is superb, but the power is immense, and it should be treated with respect in the wet.
The interior is a very nice place to be. Mine had red leather seats and door cards with piano black dash trim. The M Sport seats are comfortable but firm, and the M Sport steering wheel is the best wheel I've ever used (better by far than the equivalent M Sport 3 Series). The cabin is simple and uncomplicated, as you would want with a true driver's car.
The gear change is notchy and the clutch is very stiff. It takes some getting used to initially to not bump the clutch, but when you get the knack, the gear change is very rewarding.
Fuel economy depends on your driving habits. I am no slouch and was doing 25 MPG on average. However on motorways I could get this to 35 MPG.
A true delight to drive. Massive road presence for a little car; people would let me out of junctions or move over for me on the motorway all the time. I wish it was the same with the Three Series I have now.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
