1995 Chevrolet Lumina APV 3.1

Summary:

I wish I had never purchased the van

Faults:

Drivers window will not always go up.

Passenger side door does not open from outside.

Radiator cracked easily.

Wipers do not always work.

General Comments:

I thought I was the only one with all these problems. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad.

We have had the Chevy Lumina APV for approx. 2 years. At first it was fine, but after a few months problems started occurring.

Now, the passenger side door does not open from the outside; the wipers do not always work; the driver's side window does not always go up; misc. other "little" problems, including the fan not blowing for the air conditioning. But, now to top it all off the radiator has cracked.

What a van!!

That's because you never owned a American vehicle.

The handle is a common issue. Easily fixed within a half hour and a replacement part (get a real GM replacement - not the Chinese stuff off Ebay).

Everything else (like the heater fan which is also responsible for the A/C) is a piece of cake to replace, and relatively inexpensive.

It's a Chevy, not a Merc!

1993 Chevrolet Lumina Euro Coupe 3.1 V6

Summary:

An American dream

Faults:

Cooling fan failed at 96000 miles.

Front brake discs and pads replaced at 109000 miles, but this is just wear and tear.

General Comments:

This is a very sleek and stylish, if rather large, coupe.

I certainly have no complaints about the 3.1 litre V6 engine, as is it very responsive, not to mention reliable.

It handles very well, and feels very sporty for such a large car. you could surprise a few boy racers in this!

It is comfortable too, although the ride isn't as smooth as in the Citroen XM I used to own.

My only complaint is that because it is about five metres long, and the turning circle isn't great, parking can sometimes be a hassle.

This is my first American car and from my experiences with this one I would certainly buy another one, particularly from Chevrolet.

1992 Chevrolet Lumina MPV 3.1 V6 petrol

Faults:

Vehicle was imported by cowboys (American Van Centre, Midlands). Once it had been properly attended to by experts it was fine. Minor electrical problems were the only problem after that. Maintenance was surprisingly simple.

General Comments:

Far roomier than European MPVs and with much better performance. MPG between 20 and 25 is perfectly acceptable. Equipment levels excellent and seat comfort first rate. Americans still know how to transport people long distances in comfort far better than European manufacturers. Trim a bit tacky and (in places) fragile, but underlying vehicle very strong. LHD didn't matter as you were high up and could see over cars.
