2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring 2.2 diesel

Summary:

Great

Faults:

No faults.

General Comments:

The car is fantastic to drive and never let me down. The only downfall is the servicing cost £280 for the first one, and £400 for the second.

If you get it serviced at another garage and use genuine parts, and have the book stamped, you will save yourself a fortune. Second service £160 at Vauxhall.

Do not go for a balloon payment on these cars; when my 3 years came to an end I could have bought it for £6900. The car was worth £6300. This car cost £8600 for 3 years; I loved the car, but not for £8600.

Hope this helps

2000 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited Edition 2.0

Summary:

Excellent, but thirsty and slow

Faults:

Power steering pump, track rod end, electric door mirror, various other bits.

General Comments:

I found this car to be comfy thirsty and not very powerful, but then again these are not about going fast.

The dealer were excellent in all manner of service.

Although there were a few faults at first, the car seemed to settle down to its new owners and was very enjoyable to drive.

My ever expanding family meant we had to sell and buy a Chrysler Voyager.

Yes, I totally agree with this comment.

Can anyone advise me which manufacturers engine & gearbox would fit with minimum installation modification, or what can I do to enhance performance & fuel economy on the original engine?

2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited Edition 2.0

Summary:

The PT Cruiser is Fun and Funky to drive

Faults:

The engine cut out twice. It was a faulty sensor.

I have had to have a new hand break ratchet fitted.

General Comments:

The PT Cruiser is very comfortable, (especially as a pregnant woman as you can 'step' out of the car rather than climb or call for the winch!) fun and funky to drive.

As a family car I find it great. It is easy to get the children in and out.

Rear visibility is not so good as the headrests do take up a lot of space.

The car has a very large turning circle and can be tricky in car parks, but it is very easy to reverse park!

I love the front loading CD player. It makes life much easier when the children want their music.

We are having huge problems trying to find car seats that fit for the children.

2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser 2.0 petrol

Summary:

A car that appeals to the head and the heart

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This is the best car we have ever owned. It has been a trouble free experience since we picked the car up in July 2003.

Absolutely love the looks! It is without doubt one of the most distinctive looking cars on the road. You either love or hate the PT Cruiser! The "Electric" special edition has wonderful electric blue metallic paint. The interior is as characterful as the outside and seems well constructed.

The 2.0 litre engine is reliable and economical, but is a little raucous and noisy under hard acceleration. It could do with a few more horsepower too, although it is not slow.

The PT Cruiser handles pretty well and the ride is firm, but not uncomfortable.

The interior is very spacious with ample room for five occupants. I am very tall and there is plenty of head and legroom for me.

No other car is so practical yet has so much character.

2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring 2.0 litre

Summary:

The Cruiser is the perfect vehicle for parents without a cause!

Faults:

I have had no problems with the car at all - it has been thoroughly reliable.

General Comments:

Is it a hearse? Is it a taxi? Is it the anthill mob's car? No, it has simply dared not to be armadillo shaped like every other family saloon.

It's not the fastest thing on four wheels, but that's largely irrelevant on the roads today, and I've slowed my driving down now that I've got kids anyway.

It's very comfortable and it's got all the mod cons you need (and some you don't, like traction control).

However, it either needs a bigger boot or a cheaper dealer provided roof rack as going on holiday can be a bit of a squeeze.
