1991 Citroen AX GT 1.4
Summary:
High power in an empty crisp bag. Brilliant
Faults:
The original engine wasn't looked after and it gave up after two week. I got a 30,000 bottom end and now it's fine.
The bushes were terrible, so were the shocks.
The dash is broken on the passenger side (it's a mk1 and they have terrible dashes) and it does rattle quite a bit.
The brake servo also went.
As did two head gaskets (the head was warped).
General Comments:
It starts every morning - although it needs a bit of nursing till it's up at running temperature.
But it's so much fun and the handling is so good that it's worth it.
I have quite a few mods - K&N, Janspeed manifold, Full SS system, ported, polished and skimmed head etc, Spax suspension kit, Powerflex bushes, Tarox discs and Mintex pads. She's a brilliant car - great fun.
It's the perfect starting point for someone who likes cars, it's forgiving and easy to work on.
It's a bit flimsy (I have a full roll cage on the way - for safety), so you need good suspension, and maybe a strut brace to get the most from her or she'll understeer like crazy.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I had a 1.1i AX, and can't agree with your performance figures, unless you were driving down a steep hill. 0-60 was 10.5 seconds and 105 mph tops (which is still very good for 1124cc's).
