2014 Citroen C1 Platinum 1.0

Summary:

Inexpensive fun

Faults:

Nothing, totally reliable

General Comments:

Really enjoyed this car. I'd had a Peugeot 107 ten years before, so knew what I was buying. Found a C1 Platinum on only 22k. I'd never seen one before, but apparently was a top of the range model. Plus it's fun to drive a city car fast out of the city.

Came with alloys, air con, electric windows, LCD DRLs, fog lights, remote CL, upgraded stereo with Bluetooth module, rev pod, traction control, CSC and a black roof and factory standard big rear spoiler, that I swear made it much more stable at high speed compared to the old 107.

Economy was ridiculously good, 60+ mpg. Engine is a joy. Would be classed as a cheap interior, but a cheap interior put together very well. Would still have it now but was rear ended by a giant nostrilled fugly BMW coupe, which came off worse thankfully. Would have another one in a heartbeat.

2019 Citroen C1 Flair 1.0

Summary:

Doesn't do hills with confidence

Faults:

Nothing at all yet. If I really had to nit pick - paint seems quite thin, scratches easily.

General Comments:

Having 70ish bhp and relatively tall gearing (presumably to aid fuel economy), acceleration is at best just about adequate to keep up with traffic etc. Once up to speed the car cruises well. Even on the motorway it's relatively refined and quiet. The car's nemesis is hills. Any sort of incline and it struggles noticeably. On the steep stuff you'll quickly find yourself crawling in first gear if you lose momentum or get stuck behind someone going unnecessary slow. For what it is it's a pleasant enough car to drive, and being small it's easy and fun to throw around and to park - the reversing camera makes this easier still.

Fuel economy is excellent. I mostly do a mixture of b roads and town driving and 60+ mpg is achievable with a gentle right foot. If you do a lot of motorway driving you should still get 50+ mpg.

Comfy to drive for extended periods. Not sure I'd want to spend much time as a rear passenger though. Boot's not very big as you'd probably guess. "Infotainment" is good, easy to connect your phone via Bluetooth etc. Speakers are good.

If you're considering one, it's worth bearing in mind that on slightly older cars, certainly up to 2016 or so, the road tax is free. On my car which is a 19 plate it's £165 a year.

2008 Citroen C1 1.0

Summary:

Economical but also fantastic

Faults:

Needed new clutch, and a new exhaust... but these are just consumables...

General Comments:

Astonishing Japanese built engine, and the design (this car is basically Japanese). Okay it's not the best on motorways... and is a bit tinny... BUT it is seriously economical, both tax and petrol, cost of running is low (it has a camchain you know). Easy to work on AND because of the great rear 'hatch' design - you can carry 3m length of pipe, wood etc etc. This car has worked out as a fantastic 'van'. Most hatches will not allow you to legally/safely carry 3m stuff, but this will.

My ONLY complaints are I think it needs a bit more comfortable seat for 5 hours sits and needs a bit more sound proofing... but is it getting old though.

2017 Citroen C1 1.0 3 cylinder

Summary:

Good value, well equipped city car that seems capable of more

Faults:

Nothing - it's a loan car.

General Comments:

My Juke is in for service again and I got the latest 66 reg for a couple of days. I really don't recognise the car from the professional journalists views that seem to be coloured by too many trips in Jags or Lambos.

One litre, aircon, DAB radio, cruise, reversing camera, 50 MPG, electric windows up front, privacy glass to the rear, Bluetooth, and it goes well enough; I mean what do you want for the money???

I have found them comfortable and responsive - only issue I came across is it's difficult to get an Android phone to pair with the Bluetooth. A rather first world problem I am sure you'll agree.
