2003 Citroen C5 VTR 2.0HDI

Faults:

Central locking system.

Suspension faults: replaced the majority of the parts, including a management system.

Faulty electric windows countless times.

Fault in split tail-gate twice.

Radio faulty.

All these faults persisted from new and the car was booked in yet again to be fixed!!! but never got there as the car actually went on fire and was totally destroyed. has anyone else had a similar experience??

Ours never caught on fire, but we had countless electrical problems. I guess that poor electrical engineering and fires are related. It is strange that they can't make an electrical system that lasts. It's probably overly complex on this car since we've had other, smaller Citroen's with few problems. But even on these we had some electrical components go, but not endless problems. I think they are using sub-standard parts as well, like their fan engines that never last.

2003 Citroen C5 SX 2.0 HDI

Summary:

We would have another one tomorrow

Faults:

Front windscreen washer pump failed.

Silver coating has started peeling from gear knob.

Near side rear door doesn't always unlock.

General Comments:

Generally we have been very happy with the car, with the minor faults mostly being regarded as little more than nuisances.

Car was used for caravan towing and was a more than capable towcar, although a lower first gear would make it even better.

Ride and comfort has been exceptional even during the longest journeys

Although better suited to motorway driving, the car has coped equally well with the bumpy country roads.

I have found the car to be quite heavy on front tyres, averaging approx. 9,000 miles / pair.

About 20% thirstier than the 406 estate.

44000 miles on the tyres and plenty of life left.

A car for passengers

Comfortable and quiet with plenty of room.

Handling poor, totally underpowered and full of electric gizmos that add nothing to the ownership experience, but make very poor ergonomics. Cheap cabin.

I think that the C5 is one of the best cars that I have ever owned. The only problem has been with the headlights, while on dipped beam, illumination is very poor and has almost lead to a collision with a pedestrian on an unlit, country road.

I own a Citroen C5 Exclusive HPi, 2003 and I am having problems with (we think it maybe the fuel pump.) i.e. engine cutting out when starting up after only going a few yards. Has anyone else had same problem? Garage can't the find the problem.

Just a quick comment about the headlights flashing - mine does this too. The dealer explained it was due to the suspension adjusting the height of the car; the headlight angle also automatically changes which gives the impression of a flash. Sounds plausible!

Some of your electric problems I feel as indication for fuse-box problem.

Especially the key out and the car still running.

And with combination with the other electric problem - this could be quite true.
