1998 Citroen Saxo X 1.1

Summary:

It does exactly what it says on the tin!

Faults:

Stepper motor went, I gather this is a problem with Saxos in general (???)

We also replaced the drive shaft, but this was due a problem with the wheel, which we then discovered was happening due to someone putting the wrong driveshaft into the car! DOH.

General Comments:

Fantastic little runaround!

Our's was bought as a second car for nipping about the town, down to do the shopping, etc.

It isn't the most comfortable of cars on long journeys, the road noise being the worst part in my opinion.

We had to replace the driveshaft, as the wrong one had been fitted to her. Also, the stepper motor went on the car, so we replaced this.

We do work ourselves to both our cars. The availability of parts is fantastic, and what's more, the fact that a Peugeot 106 is practically the same car makes it even cheaper and easier!

It cost us 51.00 for a new driveshaft (brand new) and 5.00 for a stepper motor (which came out of a 106 at the scrappies). It took us literally minutes to replace the stepper motor, and about 1 hr 20 minutes to do the driveshaft. That's another beauty of this little car, they are so simple and straightforward!

The performance of the car isn't bad at all, in fact I think she is really quite nippy (bearing in mind it is just a 1.1 and 9 years old!)

I would throughly recommend this car to anyone just wanting a cheap, reliable runaround. There are little creature comforts (ie no electric windows and very little on instrument panel in the way of telling you what is wrong, when you see a light it's usually bad news, etc), but then these little cars are built for a reason, to be economical, reliable and in my experience they do exactly what it says on the tin!! I would definitely recommend one to anyone in the market for a second car!

1998 Citroen Saxo VTR

Summary:

Nippy, but fails to stop

Faults:

Sun roof leak

Electric window fail

Rear suspension faults

Front suspension faults

Trim falling off.

General Comments:

They say the Saxo rules.

Well you can keep em for me.

The brakes are the worst I have ever used.

The pedal arrangment takes some getting used too.

Build quality is junk. Really junk. Lada could do better.

Needs all 3 lanes on the motorway in windy conditions.

Clutch is heavy in town. Gearbox is french, nuff said.

OK so it pulls well and handles well down the B roads. If the suspension has been fixed that is.

Would I get another. No.

"Needs all 3 lanes on the motorway in windy conditions". the best line I've heard in a long time, lol.

1998 Citroen Saxo Westcoast Ltd Edtn 1.4i 8v

Summary:

Great

Faults:

Slight clicking noise on nearside front wheel whilst driving. Found problem, loose wheelnut!!

General Comments:

This car is seriously quick for a 1.4 and easily keeps up with 1.8 Astras. The handling is superb for a little car like this, I have non standard alloys with 195/45 15" tyres on my car and it really does help.

I like the interior, its more closed in on you compared to my old Micra. This is my 2nd car and I am very proud. Been asked a few times now if the car is a VTR.

When I bought the car I had some revving problems where it would keep falling and rising whilst in traffic, but touch wood everything is fine now.

I timed my 0-60 on a industrial estate a week ago and we got 10.3 seconds 0-60 which is good. Only mangaged 105mph so far, as I ran out of motorway.

1998 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6

Summary:

The car looks great and is a pleasure to drive

Faults:

Firstly the central locking was playing up only locking and alarming as it pleased, so I had a new alarm fitted which cured the problem.

Then the battery died on me, I replaced it and within 3 weeks the new battery died, I was beginning to think it was something wrong with the car, however, now on my 3rd battery (bought from a different place) and still going strong.

The driver's seat has developed a squeak.

Had to replace the back box on exhaust as it had rusted away.

And...the most recent problem I encountered was the clutch (apparently) i had it replaced, the car was good, however, 4 weeks on and the car is making the same noise as before. this time it only does it when the engine is hot, it's a sort of vibrating noise under the car, near the right side wheel and progresses as the clutch is pressed. This problem I have not yet resolved. Any ideas?

General Comments:

Despite the problems, I love my little Saxo, it's a pleasure to drive.

Cheap to run petrol wise, my insurance is quite expensive, however, I am only 19.

The interior is nice and the seats are comfy, it's not really a car for tall people though.

It's fast, handles well and looks great!
