2000 Citroen Saxo Furio 1.4 petrol

Summary:

Great car, but keeps breaking

Faults:

I have the same problem with the airbag light on all the time; comes off and on.

My main problem is, the car was only starting when it wanted to, so I replaced the fuel pump, and problem solved.

Only thing now is a month down the line, the fuel pump is knackered again. I've sent for another one, but wary of this one going as well. Just wondering if it's something electrical that's blowing the pumps? And if I should get the electrics checked before I put this pump in?

General Comments:

Apart from that, it's a great wee car, and is nippy for a 1.4, love it! But I live on an island, and it's not handy that it keeps breaking down, as I live 30 miles from work, eek!

Summary:

Unsafe, unreliable, uncomfortable and a death trap

Faults:

Steering oil pump.

Back shocks.

Gear linkage system failure.

Driver's seat came loose.

Hand brake came loose.

Exhaust trouble.

General Comments:

Really regret buying this car. It's very unsafe and have had weekly problems with it since January when I bought it. I have nearly spent 1500 on repairs. This week I am selling it and will never buy a Citroen again.

"Unsafe, unreliable, uncomfortable and a death trap"

- All the reasons that Citroen has not been in the USA for many years now.

America would buy Citroen's bigger cars if they put them for sale there. The stereotypical American likes a big car with soft suspension. However anyone with a bit about them will know that that view of America is slightly out of date, and no doubt Citroen would do well there.

Good man, 1st rule of motoring, NEVER buy a car from France or Italy, end of.

2000 Citroen Saxo Desire 5 door 1.1

Summary:

Nippy, reliable car

Faults:

Not a lot has really gone wrong with this car, especially seeing as it was 5 years old when I got it.

The brakes are shockingly bad. I've had them all stripped down and checked 3 times in 4 years, and they can't find anything wrong with them. I suppose it's just one of its quirks. The brakes keep passing the MOTs so they must be OK I suppose, but I've had a few near misses.

The steering is poor too, I feel like I'm sometimes 'floating' on the road even though I've got decent tyres with plenty of tread.

I've had various parts of my exhaust replaced about 5 times in 4 years.

General Comments:

All in all this is a good car, cheap to run and insure, and very reliable. It's never once let me down, and I do a lot of stop start driving.

I don't like the plastic strip (body coloured), which runs horizontally down the sides, as mine have chipped really easily and look a mess, but I imagine you need new ones as opposed to being able to repair them.

Last but not least, I've never felt really happy in this car, I always feel that something could go at any minute, it's not solid like a VW Golf.

Get a Golf then.

2000 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 litre

Summary:

Great value and fun to drive

Faults:

New radiator.

Central locking.

Broken rear wiper arm.

General Comments:

I've had brilliant reliability considering that this is a cheap car. And I love the handling; it puts a smile on my face, even though I normally drive a 182 Clio. Great value and fun!

The central locking broke first, but (touch wood) nothing major has happened since; rocker cover gasket has just started leaking, but that's a £10 fix.

Great first or second hot (warm) hatchback.

2000 Citroen Saxo Forte 1.1 petrol

Summary:

Good, cheap.. fun!

Faults:

Full exhaust system replaced at 24,500 miles.

Rocker gasket failed at 20,000 miles.

General Comments:

The car is very good, I find it comfortable and it handles soo well for a cheap car. Mine does not have power steering, but as it only weighs 805kg you get plenty of feedback from it, so it's not too bad.

The car does 0 - 60mph in 12 seconds flat and will pull 105mph.

The boot is average for its size really, bearing in mind it's based on the Pug 106 and Citroen AX, it is a old design and lacks the newer designs of "cubbie holes".

Fuel economy is good, can drop to 35mpg if pushed about in town, else it will return 45mpg on average and up to 50mpg on A / B roads.
