2003 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6

Summary:

Cheap to buy, road legal go-cart

Faults:

Eats front tires.

Rattles.

Wobbly passenger seat.

General Comments:

Handles like a go-cart, very fun car to drive fast.

Very basic car, compared to others, no luxuries, but that isn't what these cars are about.

If you like cheap thrills, then this is a car to consider.

2003 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 8v

Summary:

Nippy as hell will smash most off the mark

Faults:

All the pedals are too close together, due to this not much feet space.

You can feel the clutch vibrating a lot when you are on the motorway traveling at some pace.

The engine really starts to scream when you hit bout 90mph.

The back windows will vibrate now and then.

Go too fast round a bend and the back end will go.

Can really feel the bumps in the road when you go over them.

Needs to be a little cheaper on the insurance if you are only starting out you could be looking at a couple of grand easy.

General Comments:

Very quick off the mark, and the acceleration is very good for an 8v engine.

Standard seats an really comfortable, they follow through with you when you brake the car.

The assisted break system (ABS) is an absolute life saver will stop you in your tracks very quickly.

Standard bodykit and wheels look really good, only need to lower it a bit and it look like a dream.

The sound system in the car does go pretty load, get a bass box and you are booming.

Let the car go to about 40,000 revs and you really feel the power of the car really good for 100bhp.

Probably one the best sports hatches around, quick and really not that bad handling.

10 pound will get you roughly 100 miles if not raced all the time.

There is very little weight in saxo's especially at the back of the car. So the back end could slide easy at speed. If you accelerate a little bit during a corner then it will help to stop the back end sliding. Also I find having a passenger or 2 in the back improves the handling due to the extra weight.

2003 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6

Summary:

Too highly priced

Faults:

Noisy power steering pump replaced under warranty.

Steering Rack waiting to be replaced under warranty.

Excessive tyre wear on nearside.

Revving up on its own which was rectified under the warranty.

Passenger seat very stiff to move back to allow people to get in the back.

General Comments:

Best car I have owned in regards to holding the road.

The only real regret is buying a black one as it shows every little mark.

Not very comfortable in the back.

By the way I am coming up to 51 Years of age, so not exactly a boy racer !

If you're approaching 51 years of age then shouldn't you be driving a Rover or something along those lines. The Citroen Saxo is an excellent little hot hatch, cheap to run and insure and when has the driver ever had to sit in the back of the car???

Hot hatch I only call car with at least under 9 seconds 0-60 a hot hatch.

The guy can buy what ever car he likes.

The VTR will beat most ZR's in the range, and the Saxo VTS will beat them all. Just though I'd point that out... hehe.

2003 Citroen Saxo VTS 1.6 16v

Summary:

A nice little motor!

Faults:

Body kit not fitted correctly, fixed at 1500 mile check.

Knocking noise when changing gears, took to the dealer, no fault found, problem worsened, took back to dealer, new spring kit required between engine and manifold.

Oil leak due to faulty cap, new cap acquired from dealer.

Alarm sensors to be replaced due to alarm randomly going off.

Airbag light came on at 3,000 miles, repaired by dealer.

General Comments:

After owning an AX GT for several years the obvious upgrade was the Saxo VTS and with the free insurance and 2k cash back it seemed excellent value.

The car is nice to drive and nice to look at although I'm a little disappointed with teething problems, in saying that though they have all been put right by the dealer and with a 3 year dealer warranty the faults aren't really an issue.

For 10k the car is excellent value and a good performer with a sub 8 second 60 time. The build quality isn't the greatest, but for the price, the free insurance and the warranty I can't complain.
