1993 Citroen Xantia LX 1.9 diesel
Summary:
A good excuse to go for a spin
Faults:
Nothing major so far, the lever which adjusts the seat height recently broke, and the seats and steering wheel are showing signs of wear. The stereo was not working when I acquired the car.
General Comments:
Fantastic drive, really smooth gear changes and the driving position is very comfortable. Big boot space and a flap in the back seats for putting long items in without going through the process of putting the seats down.
Despite the excess mileage the engine is showing no signs of wear, no black smoke out of the exhaust or excess fuel consumption.
The low parking suspension is also useful for loading the roof rack!

Ha, my Xantia remote central locking was dead when I bought it, and the locks themselves started the typical spinning and not unlocking behavior. I knew it would cost me hundreds if I went to the dealers with no guarantees, so I went to the local motor accessories shop and bought a remote central locking kit for $50, and installed one of the plungers so that it pushed the door lock button up and down. Easy, cheap, permanent and works well.
I love these cars, but without a bit of DIY and lateral thinking, I can see how people could fall out of love simply because of the maintenance costs.
