1992 Citroen ZX Avantage 1.4
Summary:
Extremely competent, underrated hatchback
Faults:
Faulty wiring causing engine to cut out randomly!
Went through CV joints like no tomorrow!
Remote central locking started failing-fixed with hammer and swearing!
That's all really.
General Comments:
It was a good all-rounder. The ride was fantastic, so smooth and yet such good handling. Interior space was excellent, it was very comfortable too.
Equipment was good, lots of electric goodies (most still worked!)
Quite brisk performance for small engine, but gearing was too tall-kept running out of breath and having to change down. Proof:it did 41mph in 1st gear, it did 72mph, in SECOND gear and so on! But the economy was quite good and parts were well priced.
It took age well, being very quiet on the move, and well sound-proofed too.
Brakes were a bit spongey I thought, but again it was nearly base-spec. I would consider buying another one, but I would choose a Volcane or 16V with even more go and better brakes and looks etc.
I've had six cars now in two years, a costly way to motor, but I like trying different cars. I enjoyed the ZX and it was the most trouble-free car I've owned really.
A bit on the shy side for me, but very underrated and well worth the money.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Your review on the Citroen ZX Advantage 1.9D were 100% accurate, the car is unbelievably reliable, and superb on the economy, however I actually get 490 miles from a tank (average) and once I got 525 miles. I do fill the car up with patients i.e. allow the diesel froth to settle then fill up a bit more.
I love my ZX, I've had it since it was 2 years old, I bought it 5 years back and it sails through every MOT, never rusts, and always polished up beautifully as the car is polar white, so it comes up crisp & clean.
I've no intention what so ever in getting rod of it, so I'll keep it going with new magnetic oil every 6000 and slick 50 in the gearbox.
