1999 Daewoo Lanos S 1.4
Summary:
Competent, reliable, economic
Faults:
The thermostat failed in the open position at 15000 miles. Garage fix.
Replaced timing belt at same time.
The rotary air vent direction controller failed, because the operating cable behind the dash had become detached, but I fixed it with a cable tie. Access was possible after removing the glove box. (An easy fix).
The driver's door speaker failed.
General Comments:
The front seats gradually recline all by themselves over a period of weeks. Spooky.
The windows drop about 1 cm from time to time and cause wind noise.
The power steering is very light, but I like it that way.
Handling, brakes, steering, suspension and ride are all acceptable.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

UPDATE - The crunching sound that I thought was coming from my front left wheel is actually coming from my ABS. (Anti-braking system). Which would explain why it only does it when I first turn the car on. Been told it is not dangerous and in no way will it affect how the car drives (but I already knew that). Not sure what I can do about it, it's being looked into by a machanic friend. Seems it could just be one of those 'rattle' type noises you just can't get rid of.
Sorted my aerial out. Not a Daewoo one though - too expensive and too awkward to get hold of. Fitted a Rover Aerial. Fits perfectly and only cost £10.
