2000 Daewoo Matiz SE + 0.8cc

Summary:

Nippy, but unreliable

Faults:

To start with I have had 3 valves replaced to find out that it was not that they should have replaced, but a wire connecting the valve to the engine management computer under warranty.

Then I have had to have a full new gear box due to it not working right from when I bought it also done under warranty.

My temp gage on the dashboard ceased to work so I had to have another one fitted.

My back box on the exhaust had to be replaced also.

Recently though I have come out of warranty by one month, and so far I have had a new clutch and it is going back in for some more work due to lack of power through my recently replaced plugs.

General Comments:

If the car had been more reliable and not in the garage as much, I would have thought more about getting a newer version possibly or another deawoo model.

Yes, it is quite amazing how faults seem to be discovered just when the warranty has run out! By the way, don't take out the extended warranty - it would appear that it doesn't really cover anything and it's expensive.

I have a 2000 Matiz. I was messing with the clips on the sensor on the throttle body, because oil was on it. The car was on when I removed it. It started to miss badly. As you know, there are two of them on the TB. It's the second one to the bottom. Is your check light on?

2000 Daewoo Matiz SE 0.8

Summary:

Good cheap little car

Faults:

Rear view mirror fell off.

Car shook when in neutral.

General Comments:

The matiz is a very nippy little car. I could park it on a sixpence, and rear visibility is great. It makes an excellent 2nd car, and I would have kept it, except for the awful car dealership which dealt with its servicing.

2000 Daewoo Matiz SE 0.7

Summary:

Fun, cheap, fresh and modern

Faults:

Rear seat retainer catch has broken.

Seats have not worn very well.

General Comments:

It handles quite well and is surprisingly nippy.

Its good to drive in town with its very small turning circle and diminutive size.

Very economical except when pushed very hard.

Will happily cruise on the motorway and feels safe enough even at 90mph!

Body panels are very thin and slightly tinny, but the paintwork is excellent (Poly Silver).

Gets strange looks from some people, but most people warm to it when they see how well it drives.

I love my little car, she's a beauty.

90 mph? I take it you haven't looked at the Euro NCAP test results for the Daewoo Matiz at just 40 mph then!

Nice nippy little car, but above 65 mph and it begins to feel very unstable!

Great fuel economy, especially at around 60 mph.

Gear box is far from great, but have seen worse on an earlier year 2000 SE+ (mine's an EZ+ 02 reg).

Air conditioning brilliant, and doesn't seem to affect fuel economy too badly.

Overall I'm very pleased with my car, perfect for parking and maneouvring.

2000 Daewoo Matiz SE Plus 0.8

Summary:

Surprisingly roomy, comfortable, economical and easy to drive

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car so far.

General Comments:

I bought this car as I was attracted by its styling and small exterior size with roomy and stylish interior.

The four passenger doors as standard are very useful.

The fuel economy is very good, but does suffer if the car is driven hard.

The three-cylinder engine is surprising smooth and quiet.

The Matiz is the best car I have owned and very difficult to fault.

2000 Daewoo Matiz SE 0.8 petrol

Summary:

Nice car if you have a good dealer in your area... otherwise forget it

Faults:

Had a small door dent which they were unable to repair without major damage to the rest of the car.

Unable to match the green paint on a 1000 mile car.

No dealer service at all.

Headlights misted up and took 6 weeks to replace (now misting up again).

They appear unable to service the Matiz.

They can't or won't supply parts under warranty.

General Comments:

For a small door dent we did not expect a whole door would be needed, nor that it and the surrounding bodywork would be blue on a green car.

We did not expect the repair to consist of them spraying the whole side blue or damaging the windows, carpets, seat, seals and body moldings.

To cap things off they then proved unable to carry out the first service without causing further damage.

We have now waited a month for the parts so they can fix the results of a service.

So your replacement headlights took 6 weeks to arrive? Top this - I've just waited 5 weeks for a Ford main dealer to get me some brake pads for my Focus diesel. Probably more due to the incompetence of the dealer, but just shows, even the best sellers in the UK don't necessarily mean you get good service at the other end.

TAKE IT BACK!!! I had a brand new Golf ruined by my local VW dealership in a similar way. This kind of customer service stinks.

I hate to put your car down, but Daewoo have a very poor build of car.

And as for the comment regarding the brake pads for a Ford, try your local Autofactors. They normally can help.

As for normal spares, I try the breakers yard. I do travel up to a 50 mile radius to find spares, or try http://www.1stchoice.co.uk. You can find spares at competitive prices.

Nothing seems to be covered by any warranty that Daewoo offer! I'm in the process of fighting to get a design & manufacturing fault rectified which has completely devalued my car which is low mileage and in immaculate condition. Honestly - I really don't hold out any hope of getting anyway! I would never recommend the Matiz to anyone.
