2000 Daewoo Nubira 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Cheap to buy, but expensive to keep

Faults:

Head gasket blew at 58,000 miles, and head bolts had to be replaced as well due to rust. Total cost, over £800.00.

Heater matrix stopped working at 60,000 miles.

Front shockers had to be replaced about the same time.

General Comments:

The general build quality is quite good, although things like internal fittings leave a lot to be desired. The seats are rather thin and not very comfortable.

Fuel consumption is not very good at all, which was one of the reasons I decided not to keep it.

£800 for a head gasket is insanity considering the time this happened and the car in question. Should have been £500 tops, you got ripped off.

Not true. Parts for this car were pretty hard to come by at the time.

Obviously you have never had to get a head gasket replaced. The labor costs dwarf the cost of the parts on this type of repair.

Dunno mate, I had the same car with the same problem about 10 years ago, and a local garage where I live just outside Manchester done the job for £350 all in all (parts and labor). So over £800 sounds a bit excessive to me.

Daewoo were as common as any car at the time here in the UK and parts were certainly not rare or expensive.

£800 for a headgasket is insane, especially for a Daewoo!

There may have been other engine damage if the driver was operating it with a faulty head gasket.

You're right, there's those head bolts, and you know how dear those are.

Summary:

This Daewoo car saved me

Faults:

The tensioner on the cam belt collapsed which saw off the cam-belt and then all my 16 valves! That was partly my fault - when I had the car serviced just one month before, I took it to an independent garage to have the work done. They changed the cam belt, but didn't change the tensioner. The repairs cost in excess of £800.

Needed its brake cylinders renewing on MOT time and few other bits and pieces, which cost £200.

General Comments:

Just a couple of days after the MOT whilst driving on the dual carriage-way, a ford transit van hit the back of my car and caused me to hit a mitsubishi 4x4. There was a very loud bang and I woke up in hospital. My car was crushed in this accident, but when I later thought about it the safety features in this car were critical. ABS brakes, Dual airbags, and emergency fuel cut off switch on detection of collision.

The driver of the ford transit was prosecuted with dangerous driving, I have no idea what happened to the people in the mitsubishi.

I am grateful to the designers and engineers at Daewoo that I am still here to write this...

1998 Daewoo Nubira SEi 1.6

Summary:

Berty Bus, but cheap and practical

Faults:

The car burns a litre of oil for every 200 miles it does.

Averages around 23.5MPG which is awful considering the previous car (Punto) does 50MPG.

Movement in gearbox.

Slight tracking alignment issue.

Vague steering.

General Comments:

If your after a cheap estate with loads of equipment and space then this is for you. The petrol consumption is awful along with its facination with drinking oil.

The car comes equipped with (E/W, A/C, ABS, Dual Airbags, Alarm, Remote Central Locking with Deadlocks, Immob., and loads of bings and bongs (Seat Belts etc.).

The would compare this car with a Lada, its not quick, sexy or bone shaking. More bland, laughable and practical.

For £600 on an R plate for an estate I would say its good value although it was only kept for two months due to the petrol.

The security and equipment is excellent with a loud siren and standard across the range.

Boot space is excellent and as I kayak it came in very handy along with the roof rack.

No wind noise up until around 90 (on private race track) and brakes fairly good.

This is not a performance vehicle, the acceleration is similar to a go kart. But someone claims on here to have done a 0 - 60 in 5 seconds, more like twenty.

Reason for sale; going back to the Punto. More fun to drive and economical. Fiat Rule!!!
