1996 Fiat Cinquecento Sporting

Summary:

Excellent fun for the younger driver

Faults:

Clutch cable broke after 2 weeks of owning the car.

Replaced distributor coil costing £100.

Oil and water leaks.

Overheats in traffic jams (really annoying)

And finally... it keeps getting scratched and dented, every week I look at it and I see a new dent or scratch on the bodywork which is very very annoying.

General Comments:

Exceedingly nippy in town and will do 100mph on the motorway all day long. No major problems with this stunning yellow pocket rocket (yet). It beats a lot of those boy racer's cars off the mark at traffic lights and leaves a lot of cars standing on the motorway. This is my first car and will probably be the coolest car I will ever own!!!

I have also had problems with mine.

Hand brake hasn't worked properly since I got it (had it a year and half).

Needed a new exhaust system after 3 months.

Had many problems when I took it for its MOT.

Over heats in traffic.

I think it must drink oil!

But despite all the above I can do 80 on the motorway without it blowing up, I drove 4 hours to wales in it, it has never broken down (yet), it has taken me on numerous 2 hour trips to Derbyshire and it is very cheap to run.

Overall I think that it is a great first car and would recommend it to anyone.

1996 Fiat Cinquecento Sporting 1.1

Summary:

Excellent Little Car

Faults:

Excessive Amount Of Shaking Over 70mph.

Washer Bottle Has Huge Leak.

Heater Dial Does Not Work.

Tracking Is Out (Mostly due to it being kerbed by the previous owner)

Over Heats Quickly in traffic.

General Comments:

An Amazing Car!!!

Leather Steering Wheel, Leather Gear Knob, Electric Windows, Central Locking And Alloy Wheels All For £600.

Its very much a girls car accept in black like mine.

Mine has been lowered, has a K&N Induction Kit and Janspeed Exhaust Which really make her growl.

Has amazing acceleration off the line and through the gears and sounds amazing until about 5,000rpm where it starts to scream a bit to much.

Very basic interoir, but I used to have a mini so this hasn't been a problem for me.

Boot is tiny and back seat leg room is poor, but I'm a 19 year old boy racer type so again these facts have not been a problem for me.

Only problem I've have with them is they tend to overheat quite quickly in traffic, but apart from that they are great little cars.

1996 Fiat Cinquecento sporting 1.1 petrol

Summary:

Frugal fun with bags of character

Faults:

The radiator required to be replaced approx. 1500 miles into ownership.

The windscreen washers pump needed replaced 2500 miles into ownership.

General Comments:

This car has a surprising amount of interior space considering its small dimensions. There is more than ample headroom for most adults and the car has a usable luggage space in the rear.

The gear change on mine requires a firm hand and is not the smoothest.

The car is great fun to drive and feels quicker than it actually is. Road holding is excellent and it is a very economical car regularly returning 45 plus m.p.g.

It's small dimensions restrict its uses. e.g. It would be too small for use by a family with a lot of luggage. However in normal day to day use it could serve a small family well. Especially in a town or city.

1996 Fiat Cinquecento Sporting 1.1 petrol

Summary:

Sporty looking, quick, but unreliable.

Faults:

Needed new clutch at 38,000 miles.

Needed new Cylinder head at 41,500 miles.

Needed new clutch cable at 46,000 miles.

Engine is producing a knocking noise that is really annoying.

Suspension is knocking on drivers side front, this is most likely to be happening because I didn't upgrade my shock absorbers when I put sports suspension on.

General Comments:

Very nippy little car.

Perfect for City and Town use.

Will comfortably drive at 80mph on the motorway.

My friends brand new Clio 1.2 16v only just started sneaking away from me at 75mph!

Perfect 1st car for anyone.

I would advise other people to get one for the fun of driving it.

The thing that really lets this car down is the fact that there is always something going wrong with it, it's a shame the engine isn't more reliable.

I have owned a Fiat cinquecento Sporting for the last year, doing some long distance drives as I nip along the motorways at nearly 100mph..! I find this an incredible little car which is highly reliable.. Obviously I haven’t received to problems you have..? If anything went wrong with this car, I defiantly would buy another one!
