2000 Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo 2.0 Litre turbo

Summary:

Fastest, but worst car I ever bought; steer well clear

Faults:

Brake discs plus pads wear very quickly.

Alarm packed up.

High beam stopped working.

Clutch slips.

Suspension struts.

Air con.

Wears tyres quickly.

General Comments:

These cars are great to drive, performance is fantastic and you get a real rush every time you drive it, really fast.

You need a lot of spare cash to keep it on the road, they have constant problems that are very expensive to fix, I would say you need to put aside £2000 plus a year for fixing costs.

The most common expensive parts to fix are the timing belt and clutch; the timing belt can be up to £1000 to fix, and the clutch is about the same.

Build quality on these cars is the worst I have ever owned. Yes they look nice, but that is where it stops.

If you want a car to drive to work every day, do not buy one of these, they are for people who have lots of spare parts in the gargage and like to tinkle every weekend with them.

You have to be a real fan of Fiat to keep these cars. My advice would be to find something else and walk away.

Reselling Fiat Coupe's is a nightmare, the people who come and view the cars seem to bring notepads and spend hours pouring over every aspect of the car, and if it's not perfect they will not buy, people know these cars are rubbish and are very cautious of buying unless they are perfect.

My last word DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU HAVE PLENTY OF SPARE CASH!

These cars are not rubbish. It is a performance car, which means they have to be looked after. If you don't have the money to maintain it, then don't get one, go back to your runabout. You can't get style and performance like this for under £4000 anywhere. There are loads of good examples about. If you're having issues selling yours, then you obviously have not kept it up together.

Look after it and you will have no issues. Had mine for 5 years +, kept it up together and it is a dream.

A baby Ferrari, buy one now!

Faults:

Electrics

Purchased from a Fiat Dealer with 50K on the clock. "Services" Fuse blew at random intervals. Could be dangerous as lost all lights, elec windows, wipers etc! Dealer fixed on 3rd attempt after written instructions provided from the owners group website. Cause: A bodged in radio by previous owner.

Tracking

Tyres wearing fast on inside edges. Tracking at fault fixed for £20 at ATS.

Cause: Likely to be a pot hold or curb clipping.

General Comments:

Quite simply one of the most beautiful cars ever produced for under 30k. Mine is British racing green with Tan leather.

Astounding performance, 0-60 in 6 seconds

Decent handling given the heavy engine and front wheel drive. But not as throwable as my previous Puma.

Nice comfortable ride 90% of the time, though doesn't like rough roads & pot holes much.

A used performance car bargain.

Economy very good for the power of the engine (220 Bhp). Does about 28-30mpg up to 34 orso on motorways. Does not like urban use though drops to mid 20s.

2 litre non turbo has same economy figures - so whats the point!

Insurance surprisingly affordable considering its group 19.

Standard Leather Seats need more bolstering to appreciate the cornering potential of the car.

Overall: Much better built than the Ford I owned previously. Fiat screwed the coupe together properly.

I would like to buy a 2000 Fiat Coupe in the states, or have one shipped to the states, so I need a left hander. Any ideas where I can find one?

Re getting a LHD coupe, there's currently a yellow one on ebay.

Nothing so far.

General Comments:

Whehayyyyy! If you don't let yourself be intimidated by the sheer brute power of this car, you can have a real whale of a time with it.

The styling is superb and really eye-catching. My mates can't believe I've got such a powerful, beautiful monster for under £20k!

I agree entirely with you, I loved mine, but watch those corners. It's easier to get a TVR Cerbera Speed Six to change direction! Nowadays I make do with an F355, but I have fond memories...

A beautiful machine. Can buy a 6 sec 0-60 car, rarely seen on the road, for 7K. Nothing to touch it. Yes, of course the Scoobies will blast past it in the twisties. But in a straight line, especially once the turbo kicks in, then Boxsters need to beware.

Downsides: Read the forum http://www.fccuk.org/ - everything is there. But nothing major to worry about.
