1999 Fiat Multipla JTD ELX 110 1.9 turbo diesel
Summary:
Fun, funky, economical
Faults:
I think I need a new air flow meter, possibly a Bosch.
General Comments:
Firstly I bought my Multipla knowing it needed a few jobs doing to it. I bought from trade with 71 k on a diesel with full service history. The tailgate has a dent in it, so that's one thing, and also I have a loss of power at times, which I think may be an air flow meter problem.
Little glitches aside, I love the car. I've only had it a few months but I'll keep it for years. on the ELX version the spec is great. Electic mirrors, electric windows, electric seats, double electric sunroof, front fog lights, alloys, in dash cup holder, DC current switch, seats that convert into a table. and there's so much more..
The car's f***ing great... pardon my french. I've found it pretty powerful and responsive to drive. good handling. It has an inbuilt computer, which tells of your mpg, distance traveled, tyre pressure, etc etc. I think I'll tastefully modify mine over the years. I've put in xenon lights, then do alloys, tailgate when I can find it etc...
As it's not a common car, I've found spare/used parts a little hard to come by, but I suppose it's all relative.. the bottom line is if you're looking for something hard enough, you'll find it.
I think if you're looking for an MPV/people carrier, works van, this car can do a great job for you. With two seats removed I am doing 315 miles on half a tank, at top levels I'm returning around 45mpg, which for a vehicle that size and weight is excellent. When I fix my suspect mass air flow problem, I may even get to 50mpg.
I was toying with the idea of getting a Mercedes a class as I'm a musician and I have to move equipment like amps, guitars, drums, but after obsessing for 7 months, then weighing up the pro's and cons, I'm glad I went for the Multipla. would recommend. I know some people say they're ugly, but beauty's in the eye of the beholder. You don't buy a Multipla because you're Mr Smith following like a sheep.
The car is a fantastic individual approach to motoring, which has won it numerous awards worldwide, as well as being exhibited in the museum of modern art. I can see why because at night I start the engine, turn on my xenon lights, and my extra white fogs step out and look at her, and when I see her I know she is a work of art.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
