1995 Fiat Punto 55SX 55bhp 1.1 litre
Faults:
The car has covered 55,000 town & country miles and has only had a new head gasket which was about £25 with all the bolts etc... I also replaced the timing as you have to take the old one off. It was only £10! This car is soooo easy for a DIY person to work on.
The car has only ever had consumables apart from this.
General Comments:
Car is driven quite hard once warmed up and we are very surprisingly pleased with the build quality, reliability and running costs.
The door skins are thin and prone to dings and the rear suspension is too hard and fidgety. 5th gear seems too low, maybe the 6-speed is better.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Your comments are spot on, I had the same engine as you in SX trim. I bought 1 year old with 10k and sold at 20k, gearbox was on the way out and the steering and brakes always pulled to left whatever the dealer did to try and fix it.
Replaced the car with 1.4 Seat Ibiza which is in a different league for quality although the interior is a sombre affair compared to the Punto, having said that it doesn't creak after 30k miles.
