1988 Fiat Uno 60S 1.1

Summary:

It turns peoples' heads for all the wrong reasons; but I really don't care, it's a great little car

Faults:

Hole in the exhaust just below the rubbers. Does give forth a rude boy image though and is great for scaring pedestrians at traffic lights.

Driver's side window falls into door and has once broken doing so. Replacement winding mechanism failed to ameliorate problem as it broke within two hours of installation.

Fuel pump seems to be a bit weak at times. Remedied by simply switching off the car and letting it cool for a minute.

General Comments:

For a car that I paid absolutely nothing for and only had to outlay £36 sterling on a battery and alternator belt to get it running, I am very pleased with it's performance.

Furthermore it does the 25 mile round trip to work brilliantly and just got me upto London and back (150miles) with no hassle whatsoever.

However, the car started to vibrate dangerously when it went past 80mph. But then again it is only a 1.1 litre engine.

It was very easy to wire in another cassette radio.

Boot release handle very useful.

1988 Fiat Uno Turbo ie 1301 turbo petrol

Summary:

Bargain basement GTi beater!

Faults:

Faulty aftermarket sunroof, which leaks.

Clutch cable snapped (3 times).

Driver's seat side bolster, now wearing thin.

General Comments:

For a car with 124,000 miles on the clock which cost £2,300 secondhand 7 seven years ago, I think I've had my moneys worth! The car is still extremely rapid, being faster than most modern 'hot hatch backs' in the Fiat range.

If there were any complaints to be made, I would have to say the brakes can be a little sluggish, especially on this type of car.

1988 Fiat Uno Turbo i.e. 1.3 turbo

Summary:

An unreliable fun baby car

Faults:

Turbo, fuel injection sensors, turbo, electric windows, turbo, windows, turbo and then the windows again and the turbo.

General Comments:

Fun, fun, fun... But only once or twice a year at most. I hate myself for saying it, but it was so much fun that I would probably buy another one...
