1989 Ford Fiesta Popular 1.0
Summary:
Fine for short distance runaround
Faults:
The gearbox needing replacing once it reached 80,000 miles.
The oil needing regular topping up.
Engine takes an eternity to warm up on a cold winters day, then takes ages to cool down after a hot summer day drive.
Thermostat needing replacing.
Lock connectors were worn, needing replacing. Seat adjuster cables snapped.
General Comments:
This is an absolutely great runaround and costs very little to maintain and run.
Not particularly good for long journeys or high speeds. Car tends to struggle up hills and when there is a heavy load.
Perhaps an easy target for thieves, older Ford's are literally gone in 60 seconds.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Sadly, just traded my F-reg XR2 for a Fiesta Si. For its age my XR2 was in brilliant condition. It had been lowered, peco exhaust, expensive alloys, white dials and loads more. There is a bad stigma attached to XR2's and their drivers (ask insurance companies). In the 4 years I had the car, nothing major went wrong with it.
