1993 Ford Fiesta Finesse 1.1 HCS

Summary:

This is a very good car, cheap to run, and it starts every time; a real old school workhorse

Faults:

New battery was needed.

Rear wiper only works when it feels like it.

Driver side door speaker stopped working.

I had to change the automatic choke twice.

Rust problems around the sunroof and filler cap.

General Comments:

I bought this car from a priest for £250, a real bargain! It was owned from new and was well looked after.

This Fiesta is a great little car that is very economical.

Not the most comfortable of cars on long journeys.

Great carrying capacity when the rear seats are folded down.

Engine burns oil, but as long as it is topped up this is not a problem. It burns about a pint a month.

It is a bumpy ride on uneven surfaces.

It is slow out of the blocks, but it will cruise along at 60-75mph once it gets up to speed.

The bodywork is tough, and rust is only a problem in a couple of places.

The Finesse has colour coded bumpers and mirrors, metallic paint, a sunroof and a rev counter.

1993 Ford Fiesta DL 1.8 diesel

Summary:

Almost faultless, but slow and noisy

Faults:

Lower suspension arms regularly fail.

Steering rack and joint at 200000 miles.

Engine stop solenoid means engine keeps running when key taken out - have to stall car.

Minor electrical faults.

Very bad rust at rear following very poor accident repair.

General Comments:

This has been an incredible car, only truly breaking down once when a minor electrical fault caused two failures. The breakdown company incorrectly diagnosed the fault.

Still return 60+ mpg on a motorway run and never misses a beat.

Engine last serviced 150,000 miles ago and now a bit noisy due to neglect.

Passes its MOT emissions with flying colours every time.

1993 Ford Fiesta Peoples 1.1

Summary:

Excellent MPG, but not much else to recommend

Faults:

Worn pistons and a major oil usage issue.

General Comments:

When I bought the car it was surprisingly rust free for a 10 year old car, unfortunately the lovely exterior belied the knackered engine.

We bought the car on the understanding that it was a 37000 mile/10 year bargain. The garage we bought it from seemed OK... BIG MISTAKE - TRUST NO ONE!

We needed a cheap car to run after having our previous very reliable, but gas guzzling Hyundai Pony 1.5 x2GSi for 2 years. Biggest mistake I ever made... it was a clocked car, the Mot's were probably faked and dodgy, and to top it all off the engine was knacked

NEVER BUY A CAR WITHOUT AT LEAST A 3 MONTH Warranty NO MATTER HOW OLD IT IS... don't get bitten on the backside as we did, you have been warned.

What gas mileage did you get?

1993 Ford Fiesta Ghia 1.3

Summary:

Good looking, reliable bargain

Faults:

Front pads and disc's needed replacing a few weeks after I bought it.

New exhaust at approximately 88000.

Slight rust below petrol cap, but every where else is immaculate.

Slightly noisy when pushed hard, but I've heard worse.

New electric window motor at 90000.

General Comments:

Comfort levels are high, love the inclusion of electric windows and central locking in the higher models.

Looks ace for a non-sports car, alloys, metallic paint, color coded bumpers, sunroof.

Lively 1.3 engine, nippy as anything and can be pushed well up-to the redline with no problems, although let down by engine noise.

Reliable, only ever broke down once, due to a wire coming undone which cost nothing to replace.

Engines are sound to work on, I get everything I need from a scrap yard for little cost.

Brakes are mint, never locks up when pushed hard.

Steering is easy enough except when stationary.

Fuel economy is good when driven sensibly, but then it rarely is so can tend to drink petrol.

1993 Ford Fiesta RS1800i 1.8i Zetec

Summary:

Fun, cheap, fast and reliable

Faults:

Nothing yet, the previous owner was a friend and he never had any major problems with it. Obviously little things sometimes went wrong such as brake lights., but costs near to nothing to get fixed if you go about it the right way.

General Comments:

A excellent performance car for little money and lots of thrills. Cheap to run, comfortable seats, handling could be better. Good for around town, easy to park and reliable as long as its been looked after. Don't get it in red!

Silver & black are the best colors to go for.
