1995 Ford Fiesta Azura 1.1i

Summary:

Shopping trolley

Faults:

Clutch went at 54000 miles.

Front lower wishbone bushes also at 54000 miles.

Driver side door doesn't seal properly and leaks.

Drivers window won't close properly above 70mph.

General Comments:

Very reliable, hasn't broke down on me once, apart from the clutch and bushes.

Acceleration is awful, but can cruise comfortably at 70mph on the motorway.

Interior is OK, a bit dull, but well set out and easy to use. Seats not the most comfortable on long journeys either.

1995 Ford Fiesta Si 1.6i 16v

Summary:

Affordable hot-hatch

Faults:

Both sills need to be de-rusted, and some rust is coming back on the rear arches (de-rusted by previous owner).

As I type this, battery is being recharged, but that's probably my fault more than the car's.

General Comments:

Very, very good looking Mk3 Fiesta - I particularly like the bumpers, which is mainly why I bought it.

Cheapish insurance (group 8). As an 18 year old, I'm paying about £1,000 TPFT on it just now.

Performance is good, without giving and surprises. Overtaking is easy, and it'll go past 115mph if pushed. Could be faster, but Ford wanted to keep it at a low insurance grouping.

Interior is excellent, the bolster seats (on the 1.6 car) are the best feature.

1995 Ford Fiesta LX 1.3 CTX

Summary:

A good little automatic with just enough power

Faults:

The battery. Apart from that nothing major has set me back.

General Comments:

It's a good car when it gets going it just takes a little while to warm up. The gear change is a bit clumsy and the engine is loud at change. It handles well enough though.

1995 Ford Fiesta Si 1.6 16v

Summary:

Overall, an all round winner!!!

Faults:

Electric window motor failed.

Fog light bulbs blow constantly.

Rear wiper only works when it feels like it.

Apart from these minor problems the car is fine.

General Comments:

Essentially this car isn't for someone who's looking for pulsating 0 to 60 sprints.

I think Fords official 0 to 60 time of 10.4 seconds is about right, the car would need an extra 20 or so brake to be close to hot hatch performance and the result would be an insurance nightmare. For a bit of extra pace an induction kit and up-rated exhaust system makes a world of difference.

Still the stiffened suspension means there's no body-roll and inexperianced drivers like myself can get away with some high speed cornering. The car looks exceptional and I had to fit a cat 1 alarm and immobiliser just for peace of mind. The best aspect of the car though is the massive amount of torque, pulling from 20 MPH in 4th gear is no problem and overtaking on country lanes is no longer an issue. The engine sounds relatively quiet on the motorway and will cruise at 90 MPH.

The only major problems are fuel consumption and rust which has started to appear much quicker than I expected. Still I'd recommend these to anyone who's looking for quick car with low insurance.

1995 Ford Fiesta Si 1.6i 16v

Summary:

Expensive, but a boyracer hobby that's all

Faults:

The car cost me £3000 to buy: Until..

1 New power steering pump £120.

4 New tyres £350.

1 New front caliper £80.

New front suspension £160.

New lower arms £160.

New alternator £100.

Rear brake piston £40.

New antiroll bar bracket for rear £20.

This week I spent £200 for a local mechanic to do my sump and crankshaft gasket, and timing belt and oil filter. He did it, but he did a bad job and now I can hear like a tappet noise!!!

So this week I am going to Ford for them to do it which is costing me £350!!!

Spark plugs, bulb for rear light and over price servicing!!

£400 to get through an MOT.

And it's on its 2nd engine already when I bought it.

Funny Clifford alarm goes off in the rain. The other day it got confused and the locking went haywire!

General Comments:

I like this car as I use it alot for car shows like going to Southend etc.

Always keep it clean and mint.

Bought an Alpine head unit and Cerwin Vega! 6x9's and stealth shelf. Big difference!

Hard suspension!! Shifts! Big exhaust! New number plates make it look newer!

It's got the alloys and bucket seats as the optional extras.

I'll stick with it. Wouldn't mind a new Mondeo spoiler and bigger alloys.
