Struts on tailgate replaced 78000miles as they would no longer support the tailgate.
This car has a massive boot.
The towing capability of this car is excellent.
It just eats up the motorway miles.

Good car, poorly built
Faulty petrol release.
Faulty rear seat belt.
Failed drive shafts.
Leaking boot.
I bought the car new in January 2001 and soon after-wards I discovered that the petrol cap release did not work.
Although the car has been 100% reliable there has been an ongoing problem with a knocking from the front wheels on left hand lock. This was 'cured' by the dealers when they fitted new drive-shafts. The problem still persists.
This year the boot has begun to leak around the rear drivers side lights. After a heavy downpour this can result in up to 2 inches of water in the spare wheel well. The dealer has informed me that 'water ingress' is not covered in the second and third year of the warranty. Surprise, surprise. The dispute is ongoing and the car is going when it is sorted.

I had this problem also, and solved it very cheaply. Remove the rear light cluster, and put a bead of flexible instant gasket compound all round the seal, and then replace cluster. Tightening the nuts will squeeze the gasket compound making a water tight seal - the light cluster can be removed easily at a later date. Tube costs around £3 to £4.
I too had trouble with water getting into boot when raining or washing the car thi was solved by using flexible sealer around light unit, just recently water has started getting into the rear seatig area soaking the carpets I am now going to sell because of this. The car is reliable,good on fuel and comfortable to drive, it's just the water problem.
The boot on mine (2000 registered) is leak free, although when I lift the tailgate I can see a bead of suspiciously aftermarket looking mastic around the rear light clusters. I think I have a previous owner to thank for that. Works a treat though. No leaks at all and completely invisible with the tailgate shut.

I avoid driving the car in rain as the water enters the passenger compartment from the boot area. Dealer pointed the fault as "wrong type rear lights fitted by Fords", when complained to Ford Motor Company, Brentwood they went one step ahead of dealer blaming the fault on "WEAR AND TEAR", and asked me to foot the bill. (Can't write the words of what I thought about them.) The lights were never replaced, and now I my wife and kids carry SHAMPOO with us when driving my pride ST24 in rain.

I have the same problem easy cured with some silicone. Take the light clusters off and run some silicone round the rubbers.
I've had the same problem of water in the boot in both my st 24 and my wifes diesel mondeo and cured both with silicone.
I tried silicon, but it did not work. Easier was to put tape where the water came into the rear light. I poured water near the light and then saw precisely where the water poured in. Then I put some tape there. And now it is OK.
Pretty good all round car
Alloy wheels needed to be replaced due to corrosion around the valve bodies when the car had done 30,000 miles after about 30 months. Ford paid 70% of the cost, but I still had to pay £165, which I think is extremely poor. I do not think it is unreasonable to expect the wheels to last the lifetime of the car. Having looked a t a number of Ford cars with the same 5-spoke alloy wheels there are a lot of drivers who must have the same problem of having to inflate the tyres on a weekly basis.
I have had no reply to a letter to the Ford head office.
My second Mondeo, a reasonable car with plenty of space, pretty good fuel economy (33 +mpg).
Expensive main dealer service costs.

The leaking rear light cluster can be re-sealed by removing and re-fitting with new gasket. The job should cost about 20GBP.
