2004 Ford Mondeo LX 1.8i

Summary:

Amazing family car for the money

Faults:

Rear washer didn't work on pick up, but only took 10 minutes for the dealer to fix.

General Comments:

Trouble free motoring for years. Easy and relaxing to drive.

This car only had tyres and 1 set of front pads/disks at 50,000 miles in the whole time I had it, even though it towed a caravan.

Wife loved how easy it drove in snow.

2004 Ford Mondeo ST220 3.0 V6

Summary:

The car is a stunner; reliable and fast, just what everybody wants

Faults:

I have had the car 3 years, and the only thing wrong was the intake pipe broke last week at 44000 miles. Apart from that, nothing.

We haven't serviced the car, as it only goes 15 miles per day. Perfect every time.

General Comments:

Fast and reliable, great looking machine.

If you want to keep up with the fast BMW and Subaru, no problem as long as you can drive and handle the car.

A bit slow in starting to move, but once it gets going, there's no stopping it.

2004 Ford Mondeo ST220 3.0 V6

Summary:

Must be the best Ford ever?

Faults:

The only thing that's gone wrong with the car, and it was mostly my fault, is that I ripped the front spoiler off in the snow. The bumpers on Fords are made from very thin and brittle plastic, and are easily damaged. A new one was £440, so not cheap. I would say the paint is a bit soft too, as it seems to scratch easily, and since mine is Panther Black, you notice it more.

General Comments:

I think Panther Black 4 door ST's must be rare, because I have never seen another one around here. I prefer the looks of the 4 door, but realise a 5 door would have been more practical.

It is a car with a bit of a split personality really, it can be very docile and forgiving, or a complete animal! If you take your time, it feels like a luxury car such as an Audi or a Mercedes, but put the foot down and the engine note hardens and it just takes off. It accelerates so fast that you can hardly change through the gears quick enough. Oh and the 6 speed box is a waste of time, the engine has so much torque that I usually block shift from first to third to fifth, and then top. Going through all the gears is a chore!

I can get about 32 mpg and upto 36 on a run, not bad.

Seats are amazingly comfy, and heated too. The suspension is on the firm side as you would expect, but it handles brilliantly for a large car.

The only other thing I don't like about it is that it's easy to stall when parking; if you let the revs drop too much it just cuts out, but I heard you can get the ECU remapped to stop this happening.

This is the best car I have ever had, but there is something a bit too "German" about it. You would think you were sitting in a VW Passat at times and not a Ford. That's maybe a compliment, but it just leaves me a little cold at times. Other than being super fast it's not really that dynamic and is a little lacking in character, but for the price who cares?

2004 Ford Mondeo ST220 3.0 V6 petrol

Summary:

Unreliable

Faults:

The oil pump packed in, and now the big end has gone, and no mechanic wants to strip the engine for me.

General Comments:

Lovely car, but very expensive to insure and run.

Had so many problems with this car, and garages do not like to fiddle with them in case they create more problems.

The parts can only come from the main dealer.

I own the same kind of car. I bought it with 125000 KMs on the clock, and right now it's at 234000 km.

The car is still brilliant; only had to replace the clutch kit, and I can hear the hydraulic lifters making a very faint noise.

Other than that, bring it on. This baby is still reaching 230 km/h

in no time.

And yes, I have to agree, you mostly find spare parts at the agents.
