2011 Ford Mondeo Zetec 2.0 turbo diesel

Summary:

Very nice

Faults:

Injectors had problems (typical diesel fault) at around 75K miles, and was the biggest expense to fix at £500, other than that, just wear and tear expected of age and mileage - brakes, suspension, etc. Also changed timing belt, and I do service it by the book.

Interior is surprisingly unmarked for 90K of wear. Outside there is slight rust on rear and front arches, but it is 11 years old now.

General Comments:

2011 Mondeo, first of the updated 2010/11 shape, to the already smart looking 2007 car. Mine is blue and I upgraded the alloys and I think it looks great.

The car is very comfortable, Zetec spec is mid range and has plenty of electrics, climate control, 4x electric windows, etc. Seats are very nice for long journeys. Cabin is spacious and airy. Visibility is good with only a slight blind spot, this is a larger car that takes a bit of getting used to.

2.0 TDCi has good performance and will average 50 mpg. Gear change is smooth and the car handles very well for a family car.

If you want the perfect all round car, look no further. The car is so easy to live with, cheap tax and insurance and repairs (if you find a trusted independent and look after the car) the Mondeo is an exceptional all rounder. I can see myself hanging on to this car for as long as possible, good looking reliable economical transport can be hard to come buy for cheap these days (prices of used cars have went up massively) but I got a great deal on mine back in 2015 and have certainly got my value for money from this car. Only real problem was those injectors, but I have heard supermarket diesel may be the cause - use brand names (you don't have to use premium, just the standard stuff from a big name) and give the car a long drive now and then to clear the DPF as well and you should be OK.

2011 Ford Mondeo Titanium X 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Excellent car

Faults:

Not much other than usual wear and tear (brake pads, battery, etc.). It did come with a complete history and all oil changes done and appears to be well looked after, and I will continue to look after it.

General Comments:

I've had Ford Mondeos since the 1990s, and this modern 2011 car still feels very fresh. I think they only stopped making this shape a couple of years ago; I like the newer model, but this one still feels as good as new, packed with all the technology you would expect from a modern car.

Inside the interior is very comfortable and the Titanium X model is near top of the range. You name it, it's got it. Really good looking in black with massive alloy wheels. Had this car been less common, more people would notice how good it looks.

Driving this car is quiet and smooth; the 2.0 petrol engine is comparatively rare considering every other one of these Mondeos you see is a diesel. I think the petrol engine strength's are in refinement and it's ultimately more fun to drive. You can achieve close to 40 MPG if you drive carefully, which is bearable.

Hard to say any more about it, the Mondeo is just a good all round car. Its main rival the Vauxhall Insignia is also a nice car and I have no bias toward either, though after driving a friend's Insignia, the Mondeo is still slightly sharper to drive, which has always been its strength.

On average mileage at about 70,000 now, however I plan to keep it put many more miles on it - my previous MK1 & MK2 Mondeos back in the late 1990s and early 2000s made it to very high mileages without any major problems; I expect this car to be no different if I take care of it.

Yes it will last a long time and you won't have injector or DPF issues, so a petrol Mondeo is well worth checking out, even at only 35 - 40 mpg.

They are nice cars, you won't get 40 mpg out the 2.0 petrol though ;) Realistically expect around 35 mpg at best, rubbish at current fuel prices let's be honest.

If you want 40 - 50 mpg, try the diesels.
