2012 Ford Mondeo Titanium 2.0 TDCi

Summary:

Overrated!

Faults:

Clutch and flywheel. Expensive.

DPF filter had to be replaced after failed regen's.

Oil leak from somewhere (not solved).

Injector issues (rough running).

Many electronic issues (it locked me out once. Then the start engine "power" button failed, quick clear screen failed, etc). Too many to list!

Ford dealer uninterested, had to find a trusted independent to sort these issues out, but they were still expensive.

General Comments:

My Mondeo, when I first bought it, I thought it was an amazing looking car. Very comfortable, nice to be in, this Titanium model is near top of the range.

2.0 TDCi provides decent power and economy. I average around 48 mpg, not the claimed 53 mpg however. Apparently a better engine than the 1.8 TDCi, as regards performance and economy.

Fantastic car to drive, sharp handling and nice ride comfort. Seats are super comfy.

Sadly the reliability has been below average to say the least. Yes this is an older now - but it had low mileage for its year and was apparently looked after with full service history. Plus I have had it 3 years and have not exactly done a lot of mileage. But I do remember to give the car a firm long drive now and then as I was advised that's what modern diesels needed, but it still gave a lot of problems. I use quality fuel and oil, and service the car on time as well.

I'll not buy one again, they are way overpriced in the used market. You can have a similar Hyundai i40 or Vauxhall Insignia for less money than I paid for this Ford, or you can pay about the same or slightly extra for a Toyota Avensis or BMW 3 series. I say those cars are all better choices than this Mondeo, this generation is very overrated. A lot of the problems to be fair are common of all diesels from all manufacturers, but I wont be buying diesel or Ford again, my next car will be a proven petrol engined car from another manufacturer!

2012 Ford Mondeo Titanium 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Lovely!

Faults:

Serviced regularly and all maintenance carried out correctly during my two year ownership. Looking through the history of this well looked after car, the previous owner spent a tonne of cash on consumables and wear and tear parts (clutch being most expensive), but looks to have had no major problems.

The air con doesn't work but I don't care. It's usually cold here in the north of the UK ;)

General Comments:

Quick, reliable, comfortable, good looking, I love this Mondeo.

Titanium top spec model has all the extras. Very nice interior. Great seats, smooth drive.

Exterior stunning in "Midnight Sky" which is a sort of dark blue/grey metallic. Original Ford wheels look great.

2.0 petrol not that economical with only 30 - 35 mpg with mixed driving. Tax is also too damn expensive at around £300 per year! But it is quiet and refined, performance is good, and is easily more reliable than the diesel engines.

Bloody love it to be honest, it is just the perfect car for me, a little expensive to run but returns with reliability and spacious comfortable smooth cruising, that is nice to drive and ride in this car. Even at this age and mileage used values are holding firm.

2012 Ford Mondeo Zetec 2.0 TDCi

Summary:

Just a great car, modern and economical

Faults:

Usual consumables plus servicing and belt changes. DPF light illuminated but a firm drive cleared it out. Clutch has been a bit juddery since I passed the infamous 100K mark, but no signs of failing. Air con useless, may just need a re-gas.

General Comments:

Metallic black 2012 Ford Mondeo Zetec. A much better looking and performing car than my previous 2007 Vauxhall Vectra.

2.0 TDCi has plenty of power and does a solid 50 mpg.

Nice interior, Zetec is a middle of the road spec, nice amount of equipment and comfy seats. Good visibility. Lots of space and quiet on motorway.

Steering is nicely weighted. Great to drive.

Standard alloy wheels (16 inch) look too small, upgrade to 17 or 18's and it looks much better.

Ford main dealer was useless, I had to use my local garage, but that is OK he is cheaper. Thankfully I have not had to visit too much though for servicing or repairs - the car has been economical and reliable, but watch out for expensive diesel issues common to all diesels (Dual mass flywheel, DPF, injectors, etc).

Overall a jack-of-all-trades kind of car. Lots to like and nothing to hate, the Mondeo is a car I will miss, perfect for family/executive use, I will never understand why people moved away from these cars to boring crossovers.
