2015 Ford Mondeo EcoBoost Titanium 1.5T petrol

Summary:

Not bad!

Faults:

Watch for known turbo failure on these EcoBoost engines; my car had a new turbo before I bought it thankfully.

I have had no major problems in my two year ownership and 11,000 miles.

General Comments:

Great looking car in blue with Titanium spec, this Mondeo looks the part!

1.5 turbo petrol engine is rare considering most of these cars are diesel. It's punchy to drive, plenty of power while still managing around 40 mpg. It's a shame the turbo usually fails on these units, otherwise they are generally reliable enough. Gearchange is slick and the car is good to drive.

Interior is very nice, electric everything, very comfortable seats, and super smooth and quiet on motorways.

In short, a petrol Mondeo is worth checking out. Long term reliability remains to be seen, but it has been a better car so far than my old 2008 Mondeo diesel.

You got lucky so far. The Eco Boost engines are pretty unreliable. Just do an internet search for their issues!

2015 Ford Mondeo Titanium Econetic 1.6 TDCi

Summary:

The modern Mondeo is still a fine car to own and drive

Faults:

EGR valve, and the turbo had to be replaced, both at great cost, and both failed around the same time (60,000 mile mark). Typical faults of modern diesels however, not exclusive to this car.

The car has otherwise been OK, normal wear and tear parts are cheap enough to replace if you know a good garage. Servicing has also been fine.

General Comments:

Good looking and good to drive, there is much to like about this Mondeo. My Titanium model is a good spec and has all the modern electrics you will ever need.

I should have went for the 2.0 TDCi though - this 1.6 diesel is economical but short on power. The manufacturer MPG figures are also a work of fiction. You will get 55 - 62 MPG on average. To get 65 - 70 MPG or more you'd need an endless motorway with the cruise set at 60 mph to get anywhere near those figures. Not realistic. But with generally good running costs (some expensive repairs aside) and cheaper insurance and zero tax, this is about as cheap to run as a car will get these days. They are expensive to buy initially even used with higher mileage though. I did get a good deal back in 2018 when it was only a few years old however, but now the price of used cars has sky rocketed. I'll be hanging on to mine till the end!

Very nice to drive despite the poor power. Handling is very nice and the gears are smooth. A slightly more reliable and better car to drive than my previous Vauxhall Insignia, but there is little between these cars now.

Comfort levels are top notch. The car is a bit big though for some people, but the parking sensors help a lot. Really good looking car, but I think the 16 inch alloy wheels look too small for this cars size.

To sum up you cannot go wrong if you buy a looked after car at a good price, the Mondeo still has plenty of life left in it despite being recently no longer made.

2015 Ford Mondeo Zetec Econetic Estate 2.0 TDCi

Summary:

I like it so far

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

Early days (four month ownership) but I like this Mondeo, first of the newer shape 2015 cars. Silver estate model, looks good.

It is a very big spacious and comfortable car. Zetec spec has plenty of electric toys. Seats are very nice.

Exterior wise the alloy wheels look a bit small in proportion with the rest of the car; I prefer the bigger wheels you get with the ST or Titanium models.

2.0 turbo diesel engine is good so far, fast and does a genuine 60 mpg. The car will be cheaper than most cars to run, though they are quite expensive to buy even used with some miles on them.

Loving it so far though, seems the ideal car to keep long term for family or business use.
