2016 Ford Mondeo ST-Line Estate 2.0 TDCi

Summary:

Very nice!

Faults:

Basically nothing in the year and a half I have been driving it.

General Comments:

It is hard to get excited about a family estate car, but this Mondeo has surprised me in every way. Great to look at, nice to drive, whilst still being economical.

ST-Line is a great trim level. Electronic everything and sporty styling and seats. Love the black/grey look interior with red stitching. Lots of space inside.

Black metallic paintwork on the outside, powder grey alloy wheels, rear window tint, really looks great.

2.0 TDCI has a nice balance of power and economy. I have no problem overtaking anything, while getting a genuine 55 - 60 mpg. The car feels a little softer than the old Mondeo but is still very sharp in the handling department compared to rivals in this class.

So to finish, if you want a reliable family estate car but still want to enjoy driving, check out the ST-Line Mondeo.

2016 Ford Mondeo Titanium 2.0 TDCi turbo diesel

Summary:

Not as dull as it looks

Faults:

Other than servicing and wear + tear items such as tyres and brake pads, basically nothing. Wouldn't expect anything less at such a low mileage (have ran older Mondeo's to over 100K) so don't expect anything. Cosmetically the stone chips on the front are looking bad for a car only 5 years old, but I do a lot of motorway driving. Driver's seat also a little saggy, but I am not the lightest person!

General Comments:

The modern Ford Mondeo introduced around 2014 is all one could ever want in a run of the mill car. Looks good when you look hard at it (mine is black with massive alloy wheels) and the interior is a nice place to be. Compared to my last car, a Vauxhall Insignia, there is little between these cars now. The Mondeo was always regarded as better, and I would agree, this car is just much more fun to drive.

2.0 TDCi is the one to go for. Forget the smaller units, they are OK but for the slightly better economy you lose a lot of performance. This 2.0 is by no means a sporty fast car, but plenty of power is on tap when you need it, and you can still expect around 60 miles per gallon daily driving. Handling is also very tight.

Interior is dull with black plastic everywhere. I could also complain about the stop start/key-less/electronic handbrake etc etc as a lot of people do on modern cars. To be honest they are no big deal once you are used to them. Titanium model is near range topper and has all the electric stuff you would expect.

Got a great deal on mine from an approved used dealer, though the after care is poor and expensive, they want you back for servicing that can be done elsewhere just as good with quality parts for cheaper. Since mine is out of warranty I'll be looking elsewhere for repairs and servicing.

In conclusion if you want a modern car that is reliable and easy on the eye, and you can find a local independent for repairs, the Mondeo is and always has been a safe bet, providing you buy a looked after example and keep looking after it.

I agree with your comments. I have the 1.5 diesel; still enough power when needed and good fuel economy. But agree the 2.0 is the better one.
