2000 Honda Accord SE 2.0

Summary:

The near-perfect all-rounder

Faults:

Nothing, although 2 rattles in the dash that the dealer seems uninterested in fixing.

General Comments:

VTEC took 5,000 miles to loosen up, but now it is seriously quick over 4,000 rpm.

Torquey around town, spacious (hatchback), refined and a cut above the Vectra/Mondeo on image.

Radio controls tiny and fiddly, but a good sound.

Fuel consumption can be in the low 20's if pushed.

2000 Honda Accord SE Executive 2.0 VTEC

Summary:

Superb refined car that can plays very well with the boy racers

Faults:

Drivers door - nasty rattle, took 2 visits to the dealer to fix, but it's solid and quiet now. First time the dealer was looking at the wrong panel.

Wipers - passenger wiper freezes badly in temperatures below 0C. Dealer is going to replace.

SatNav CD was way out of date, 1998 version in the 2000 car! Honda UK were going to charge £132 for a replacement, but the dealer wangled it for free :)

General Comments:

Heavy on petrol. Full 65 litre tank of super unleaded, with gentle driving and air-con off gets about 280 miles before the petrol warning light comes on. My older, bigger, heavier, 2.0 Omega used to do 350 on 70 litres of unleaded.

Super-unleaded gives more power though, great fun exists between 4000rpm & the redline.

SSS auto box is way better than other auto's - quick and smooth to shift.

Overall the car sticks to the road very well (to the detriment of my tyres) and is either a hoot playing down the back lanes, or perfect for munching motorway miles.

Fuel consumption on the Accord can appear worse than it is, until you get used to the unhelpful fuel gauge - on my 2000 model the low fuel light comes on with over 4 gallons still left in the tank, and shows half empty with only a third of the tank used. I'm planning to get this checked by the dealer.

2000 Honda Accord VTEC S 1.8 16v

Summary:

Great car, but a bit thirsty!

Faults:

Night illumination on the stereo is non-existent. Fixed by dealer (but only after trying to tell me the unit didn't have night illumination!)

General Comments:

The car is great to drive, and although I've still only covered 3900 miles, the build quality makes it feel like it will last for years.

Only gripe is fuel consumption which is well below my old Vectra, which was similar in terms of size/engine capacity.

VTECs get not so good mileage. Your motor is a 1.6L engine BTW, not 1.8.

Hi,

An update on my car (which is an 1859cc VTEC NOT 1.6L as per the earlier comment). I've now covered 26500 miles (as at January 2002) and the car is running super smooth, with one exception. Problem is selecting 2nd gear from cold, which can be very sticky. Anyone else had this problem?

2000 Honda Accord Si 1.8

Summary:

Fast economical big car

Faults:

Only thing to go wrong was a faulty oxygen sensor... apparently there was a recall on this part only Honda forgot to tell me... so I've had to put up with poor acceleration for 2600 miles... it's like a different car now.

General Comments:

Excellent service from very helpful dealers, nothing is too much trouble... shame about that sensor.
