2001 Honda Accord Type R 2.2 n/a petrol

Summary:

The best performance saloon in its price range

Faults:

20,000+ miles of driving the car hard hasn't produced any faults, just followed the service intervals as normal, oil being done a little mature because of the way I drive.

Running costs for performance as with most flagship Honda is excellent!

General Comments:

One of the best FWD chassis around, stunning composure, excellent level of grip and feedback and a rev happy engine that flies around the rev gauge.

Seats are excellent as would be expected from Recaro, gear selection is firm and precise and overall the car feels solid.

2001 Honda Accord SE Executive. 2.0i

Summary:

Looks expensive and feels well put together

Faults:

There is a slight knocking noise from F.N.S suspension.

General Comments:

The car looks very smart with its bright blue paint, chrome bits and black leather interior.

Reasonable economy,36mpg on a long run @70-80.

I find the seats too hard and a bit narrow. Cruise control is a big help to give my right buttock a rest on long trips. (Don't get chance to use it much on our congested motorways.)

Some switches are obviously an after thought because they are in silly places, such as the heated seat switches. What use is putting a light on the switch when it is hidden under your elbow. It needs a light on the dash.

I find it is tight to get your hand down the side of the seat for the electric seat controls.

Car feels solid on the road.

My first choice was a VW Bora, but didn't really look at many before seeing this Honda. I recentley sat in another Bora and knew it was the car I should have bought.

2001 Honda Accord SE 2.0

Summary:

Great Engine Great Car

Faults:

Drivers seat came loose and was fully fixed at next service. No further problem.

General Comments:

The engine performance was fantastic. It must be one of the best engines going (V Tech).

I did not think the build quality was quite as solid as my previous Mazda.

Overall a great car I would recomend anybody to buy.

2001 Honda Accord SE 2.0 16v VTEC

Summary:

A reliable if somewhat dull family saloon car

Faults:

Lambda (Oxygen) sensor in exhaust failed showing warning light on dashboard.

General Comments:

This car is a good all-round family saloon car.

Well made.

Generally reliable.

Quiet.

Fairly economical (33mpg).

Performance, however, sucks. It is slow considering it is supposed to develop 138BHP...I'm still trying to find the extra 100BHP... I still have my Xantia 2.0 16v which will comfortably out accelerate it.

The cabin is tidy and spacious if somewhat plasticky.

It has to sit at 4kRPM + to get the power from the VTEC - then it will see of your Xantia.

The engine is a 8V, not 16V.

If you want it to go fast, you have to rev the pants off it.

2001 Honda Accord Type V 2.3 petrol

Summary:

A car built when quality and reliability were on holiday

Faults:

Water pump changed after 6 weeks.

Headlight washers failed.

Gearbox changed 6 months after reporting fault. New unit became noisy after 4 days-problem not resolved.

Both front leather seat backs changed due to splitting on the seams, whilst the seat portions are still waiting repair.

Drivers door suffers wind noise even though a new seal was fitted, problem ongoing.

Various trim parts have fallen off the interior, dealers solution is to not refit any that are out of vision.

Drivers door makes cracking noise when cornering, not resolved.

Front suspension on drivers side makes banging noise over bumps.

The wheels were changed because of corrosion and when the new ones were fitted one tyre was replaced incorrectly, (they are marked for direction)

The car has been returned from the dealer many times with grease on the seats (sent back for valet) and on the last instance with scratches on the body work.

General Comments:

The car is in my opinion very poor in both quality and reliability, the dealer is even worse and Honda UK show no commitment to their product by not returning phone calls and E mails.

I thought when buying this expensive motor I would have peace of mind for many years, how wrong.

I wonder if you are speaking to the right people? I cannot believe that someone senior in at the dealership or Honda UK would not be horrified at this.

Honda cars do not always live up to their supposed reliability (I've had problems with my Accord) but what has impressed me is the willingness to put things right ASAP. Honda and their dealers aren't perfect, but I have run Fords, Vauxhalls, Fiats, Volkswagens, Rover Etc and Honda have proven light years ahead.

Sadly no one at honda or the dealer is prepared to do anything to solve the problem with the gearbox. The comment made was if you don't like it tough go and buy another car. Hows that for customer relations.
