1992 Honda Civic VTi 1.5 VTEC

Summary:

Best bargain I ever bought for a good bargain price

Faults:

Replaced original engine with a 1995 one due to a pulley shaft snapping at the engine outlet.

General Comments:

Lovely car to drive, very quick for a 1.5 motor, came with all the extras that the Japanese seem to fit as standard, eg. CD player, electric windows, power steering, electric mirrors, air conditioning etc.

Great to look at and spotlessly clean inside. Only problem is a rattle from the boot compartment, but got that sorted by applying an extra strip of rubber over the back window seal.

1992 Honda Civic VTi Hatchback 1.5 VTEC

Summary:

Small but perfectly formed

Faults:

Nothing, had it serviced after 6000 miles and she's run fine since.

Wipers are not great for heavy rain though, had to pull over several times.

The boot is ALL plastic with no carpet so things slide all over the place and it's very easy to scratch

There is no back shelf (ie. for speakers) and you can't install one easily.

Back brakes screeching, mechanic told me it was because of dirt and could be blown out by pressurised air.

Electric windows are noisy and shudder going up when they are wet (seals are too tight, which I suppose is good).

General Comments:

This car is a rocket for a 1.5, and runs 0-60 in 9.3 which is unbelievable for an engine that size.

Great fun to drive and will leave most cars in its class for dead although don't try racing the Civic SiR version at the traffic lights or you'll burn out your engine.

Quite economical, but then again mine is 8 years old so I didn't expect anything spectacular.

No back shelf, that's not right mate!! They all have one.

No they don't, mine is a 92 import and it does not have a back shelf either. I put a blanket on the plastic boot lid to keep the noise down and to stop things sliding all over the place.

Yeah I had the same problem with mine, good idea with the blanket though.

1992 Honda Civic ELX 1.3 petrol

1992 Honda Civic VTi Hatchback 1.5 VTEC

Summary:

Like a first love!

Faults:

Slight sqeak noise from the air conditioning and the right door.

Left passenger door handle stopped working after 1 year of use by me.

General but annoying rattling from the boot unit.

Dipped head lights are lousy.

Wipers, at high speeds in the rain are not reliable or powerful or heavy enough.

When a headlamp fuses - there is no warning indicator - simply dangerous.

General Comments:

Generally - this Japanese Import (1.5 Vtec VTi, 1493cc, ABS brakes, LSD, A/C, power steering, Honda trims, electric windows & mirrors) is a damn good, fast, economical, comfortable and great looking car.

Difficult to compare in order for a similar buy.

Nice car, but I would recommend going for the 1.6 VTi, which is a rocket, especially mine which cost me £1700, has had a few mods, and is runnig 175 bhp.

It glides about with the sound of a race car, so get one.
